Would u let your adult son/daughter move back home?

He or she is out of work and has little money. How'd u feel about that?
Top | New | Old
With conditions, yes. If they asked. My son lived at home while in college and for some time afterwards. He lived in another level of my home. Always respectful when I worked shifts. Not a problem.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Yes. Home is home, when its needed. HOWEVER. They are now not entitled kids and will have more respect , like house guests. Its a new relationship. (PS. This has happened with both my kids after failed relationships.)

@Thinkerbell It surprises me sometimes too. I rationalize it as self serving. People may deserve worse from me. But I dont wish to be the one carrying the regret.😷
acupaday · 46-50, F
Of course. Actually had to open our doors up for that last year. We’ve always been a tight knit group so I’d much rather give them a comforting home as a resting place to regain their balance during the rough times, if they need it.
MrAverage1965 · 61-69, M
We did when my son got made redundant, he said it was for a few months until he found a new job but he stayed 3 years and saved a deposit on a house.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
They are my child, who didn't ask to be born. I chose to have them.

No matter what age they are they are still my child and I owe them whatever support I can afford to give them.

Parenting doesn't stop until you die.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@Wiseacre I can't depress you. You have thought something and are now feeling depressed as a reaction to goodness knows what.
Wiseacre · F
@Zeusdelight true enough...being a mother was one of my worst experiences☹
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@Wiseacre I am sorry to hear that. I cannot imagine how difficult that would have been.
TexChik · F
In almost every situation, yes. However, if they are into drugs or have become an alcoholic, they are going to a lock down rehab. If they are in trouble with the law, I will help them face that and get it resolved one way or the other.

We love our kids and they love us. They would be taken care of.
Wiseacre · F
@TexChik ok with me..
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
I would be happy for one of my adult kids to be here short term if they needed a place, but they'd have to share the spare bedroom with my 7 y/o. Good thing is they all get along well.

By 'short term' I'm meaning a month or two.
Wiseacre · F
@zonavar68 yeah, short term...fingers crossed!
It's opposite here. Parents want their kids to stay at home even if they are employed or not. Parents wants family to be together and wants to raise grandkids as well.
Wiseacre · F
@littlepuppywantanewlife not me..I love my freedom!

Yes absolutely
He's always my son and he is loved and accepted by me no matter what happens .
Lostpoet · M
I would and it seems like my parents allowed all of my older siblings to move in even after they were in their late twenties early thirties.

I don't like my dad and I wouldn't care if I never saw my parents house again.
lasergraph · 70-79, M
My son and his entire family moved in after his house got struck by lightning. Stayed for 6 weeks.
Wiseacre · F
@lasergraph ok, that's bearable.
Wiseacre · F
I wouldn't like it bc my parental duties have ended a few yrs ago. My son was a HUGE handful☹
exexec · 70-79, C
Sure. We have plenty of room. We had to live with my grandparents for a while when I was a child because our house burned down.
CestManan · 46-50, F
I get along with my son but I would not want him living with me.
Wiseacre · F
@CestManan yeah, exactly... they're not children anymore.
deadgerbil · 26-30
Yes, so long as they act properly. Being a parent doesn't end just bc they turn 18. It's a life long commitment
Wiseacre · F
@deadgerbil not for me..
deadgerbil · 26-30
@Wiseacre not everyone has the appropriate mentality to be a parent either lol
Wiseacre · F
@deadgerbil so true..I came from abuse.
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
My home is always open to my daughter
mindstruggle · 31-35, F

HotPizza71 · 51-55, M
Of course...did it myself,when much younger,for 6 month's. My home is there home, always
Wiseacre · F
@HotPizza71 I couldn't wait to move out at 16.
I would cause i love my imaginary kids i'd be so happy to see them

Sigh
Wiseacre · F
@SStarfish but u never know how they'll turn out.
@Wiseacre i take it you hate kids and have a highly negative view of them?
vetguy1991 · 51-55, M
yes, thats what families do
Wiseacre · F
@FreeSpirit1 not in my books
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
Absolutely. I'd probably insist on it.
BuzzedLightyear · 61-69
Until my dying day, what I have is theirs...
Wiseacre · F
@BuzzedLightyear I've heard some negative stories..
BuzzedLightyear · 61-69
@Wiseacre because they raised their kids wrong in the first place
Coralmist · 41-45, F
