Are there any shows you didn't allow your child to watch?

I didn't let my son watch pokemon because I didn't like how it was a bunch of kids capuring animals to make them fight for entertainment. I thought it was cruel

I think it's like peanut allergies...if you don't expose them to it at a young age they won't build an immunity to it in the future.

Pokemon is all in good fun not to be taken seriously. In the first movie back in the day, they explained that there is a big difference between the sparring pokemon do naturally in the fiction, and literally forcing them to go to war with eachother.

The main character sacrifices himself to stop the pokemon war the main villain started, because he went too far and the pokemon didn't want to fight in that way.

Your son will learn if he doesnt already know, how we as a race exploit, abuse and kill animals and people on the daily in everyday life.

Humans are cruel. Sheltering kids doesn't work. The world is full of war, exploitation and evil.

They need to know how to navigate this. Life is messy, and we live in interesting times.

@GeistInTheMachine THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! See, you get it. But let's be honest, she's probably one of those parents that asks for homework for their kids during the holidays.

Squidgame 😬 My kid is 9, so no freaking way. She wanted to watch it because some kids in her class watched it and one had a Squidgame themed birthday party😵

@Raffiki Thank feck that's never been on TV here in Oz. My daughter is addicted to everything frozen and Disney princesses are her life (because her mum is a narcissistic control freak princess herself lol).

@Raffiki Have her watch Hunger Games when she gets a bit older so she can be prepared for the inevitable future when the Water Wars begin and the government starts making kids fight for food and healthcare because inflafion skyrocketed.
Raffiki · 22-25, F
@GeistInTheMachine will do 👍

Pretty much any Japanese manga type animation. Its much too graphic and violent for a 5 y/o.

@zonavar68 I agree for a young child. Though he is 12 now I still don't like it for him
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
I didn't ban it but I strongly discouraged and avoided Caillou and Peppa Pig at all costs.

That's an interesting take on it. One point is that it's just a cartoon. They're not real animals. No different than reading a book. Say like Animal Farm with its cruelty.

But that's still fine if you don't allow any depictions of animal cruelty in your home. I would hope though that you explained your decision for it to him, yes?
WhateverWorks · 36-40
SpongeBob SquarePants and alike. No dumbing cartoons during fundental brain development years.. 🤷🏻‍♀️
LordShadowfire · 46-50
@WhateverWorks I agree. Wait until the kid's at least 20 before introducing SpongeBob.
LordShadowfire · 46-50
Then I'm about to tell you something that's going to make your perception of it even more negative.

You know how Meowth is the only Pokémon who can talk? Well, it turns out, he's not actually more intelligent than any other Pokémon. Any of them can be taught to speak, and understand languages. This is particularly impressive when you consider that this is a Japanese program, because Japanese is one of the most complex languages in the world. And Meowth can converse quite fluently in it.

Why does that make the Pokémon universe darker? Because it means that Pokémon are more than just animals. They are sentient, sapient beings capable of understanding complex and abstract concepts. Their intelligence is equal to that of a human. Yet around the world, they are treated as animals: captured, trained, and forced to fight for the amusement of humans. This is literal slavery of an intelligent race of beings.

@LordShadowfire i knew it i knew it! I knew i had a reason to despise that show
Eh there were shows i didn't approve of kids watching but they weren't my kids so..
Fairydust · F
They can watch what they want.
Allelse · 36-40, M
Hah! Wow, you suck.
Donotfolowme · 51-55, F
I plan to not having them access to any TV or Phone like things. Backyard would be the place to play with almost everything they would need till they get tired.
