Getting ready in the dark

Nothing better than waking up to find the power is out. Poor Joel had to take a cold shower in the dark, I couldn't make him a hot breakfast, I couldn't make his tea!

A Tree fall on the power line so our whole block is dark. Estimated repair time between 10-4. Well that's awesome. I put flashlights in the bathroom so Star and Sissy can have some light when they get ready.

I also woke Sissy up to tell her the power was out. I talked about how her morning would be different, cold shower, in the dark. There is no windows in our bathrooms. Thankfully a cold breakfast was already planned so that won't change.

She took the news good.

So yeah great start to the morning. But hey I did get 3 hours of sleep last night so there is that!

We feel your pain. Our power outages were so frequent that we finally got a Generac to power the whole house. It has served us well through several hurricanes, storms, and freezes.

@Cigarguy101 Yes, your neighbors would love hearing that generator early in the morning.
@exexec not exactly how I want to meet the new neighbors

@Cigarguy101 you really have to be very careful with gasoline powered generators. They can be useful in a pinch but are very dangerous for many reasons.
I am familiar with such mornings. I clearly remember when we (parents and four kids) moved into an unfinished house. The basement was the only finished part - and we’d sprint out of bed to the stove which had been parentally pre-warmed, and we’d get dressed by the open oven door.

The reason we moved there was because my Dad was a pastor and the deacons & such wanted to sponsor bingo games in the church for revenue. Dad said no, they said yes, and we packed up the next day and left the city.

I was a kid. It was an adventure.
@Mamapolo2016 yeah just goes to show how spoiled we have gotten over the years. Lol
@Cigarguy101 Me too! Electricity outages feel like returning to prehistory.

We have them from time to time. My biggest worry about power outages is if I paid the electric bill, which I actually do on time or if there is something wrong with my account. But it's usually the power company working on one of our power lines.
@Barefooter25 I knew it couldn't be because I forgot to pay the bill because we just moved in lol. i did worry it was still under the old owners name and that's why it might of been turned off. But no it was the tree

We lose power here frequently every time it rains. Joel can stop on the way to work and get a warm breakfast and tea if he wants. I'm sorry, but I don't do cold showers. I would clean up in the sink and shower when I got home. I hope the kids see it as an adventure and don't get upset.
@Musicman yeah I know he can I just enjoy doing that for him. The boys take their baths at night so they will be fine. It's just our daughter I'm a little worried about. But at least I prepared her for it. I did tell her she could skip her shower but she looked at me like I was crazy lol.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@Cigarguy101 Yeah, that's not happening with girl's. Lol!!! You would be better off renting a hotel room so the girls can shower and dress.
@Musicman if it was going to be out for a few days I probably would but I think they will be ok for one morning.
if you have a 30 gallon water heater. you should have had hot water,
and where was your emergency battery lantern,
@jackrabbit10 just moved in so I have not gotten them all out yet and 2 people took showers before our daughter got up
@Cigarguy101 moving is a pain, messes' every thing up for a while,
@jackrabbit10 yeah I have ordered new night lights, flash lights and lanterns for the house.

Why would u wake them up in the middle of the night to tell them the power was off
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
@Cigarguy101 well that is good. Kind of sounds like u need some kind of grill to cook breakfast on and that coffee
@smileylovesgaming yeah everything is electric in the house no gas appliances 🤷🏻‍♂
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
@Cigarguy101 my boyfriend he loves his black top. He has cook eggs and bacon or sausage on it. I remember my husband he made coffee in the fireplace a few times
Levenrack · 46-50, M
See.... it's not the trees fault.
🫤
@Levenrack if that's what knocked out power out I think we're going to have to move again lol
Levenrack · 46-50, M
@Cigarguy101 must have been Treebeard sending a message, to do just that. 😆
