glad she's ok....when my mom was alive and living with me (she was early 70s) her leg buckled and she fell and broke her hip. she was in the bathroom and it was in the middle of the night. i was sleeping....she managed to crawl or more like slither her way to my room and kick my door with her other leg. i woke up and had no idea what she had done.... i must admit the hospital did a fine job on hip replacement surgery that was at no cost other than a 40 dollar bill from the ambulance ride

@beermeplease The last time she fell, she was face flat in the road & thank God above, there was no traffic at that time. Her road is usually super busy.

There are physical therapy programs that may help give your mom more reliability and confidence, training on things she can do to minimize the risk of falling. Having a transport type wheelchair in the car trunk may provide an option to avoid riskier situations. Or a walker.
I've been through this with parents and spouse. Old age and broken bones together can be devastating.

@Heartlander She was in PT for awhile to improve her strength & balance & I'm thinking she's about to go back to it.

@Tumbleweed
We did that a few cycles and it really helped. The horrible fall for us happened when she tried to put on a sock with one hand while standing on one foot and holding a chair back with the other hand to keep her balance.

@Heartlander Last time mom fell, she ended up face flat in the road. I thank God she wasn't hit & killed.

Does she have good shoes? I bought my elderly friend some wide padded shoes from a company called Fitville and she rarely falls now. They were recommended to me by a chiropodist and I wear them too. Just a thought.
Oh man, I'm sorry. At least she's ok.
My mom fell once and scraped her nose so I know what you're dealing with. She's in her early 70's.

It gets tougher as you get older to notice small steps like that. Both of my parents got more and more like that I got up in years.
I’m glad she’s OK

Even unhurt, she must have been shaken. I know it does me when I fall. Hope she is doing well.
Degbeme · 70-79, M
@Tumbleweed Well you remember the last time. I`m sure that was going through your mind.
Tumbleweed · F
@Degbeme If I had seen her fall the last time I probably would have passed out. I HATE it when she gets hurt.
Degbeme · 70-79, M
@Tumbleweed I hear ya, saw that many times with my mother.
AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
I'm so sorry. Is she willing to use a walker or some other type of aid?
Tumbleweed · F
@AngelUnforgiven It took everything I had in me to talk her into using the scooters at the grocery stores. I even tried to get her to at least use a cane but she just won't do it :(
AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F

I went through this with my wife. Without drawing her attention to it, I just started always being arm in arm.😷
Tumbleweed · F
@whowasthatmaskedman I know, what a beautiful thing to do!
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Tumbleweed Your mother did the same for you while you were growing. And my wife and I have always been each others rock and cheer squad. How can you not?😷

saragoodtimes · F
@Tumbleweed broke a heel and tumbled down the stairs a month ago breaking my hip. surgeon says can be up to a year before I get my normal walk back. I'm not that old but falls can be castrophic for seniors
Tumbleweed · F
@saragoodtimes Oh, love, I'm sorry!! I hope you heal quickly! My mom is 77 so a fall like that for her would be devastating.

Tumbleweed · F
@TurtlePink Luckily this time she didn't hit hard. She didn't even get a scratch but it hurt my heart.
