Rules give you a sense of safety. You know exactly where you stand when there's rules and discipline and better to have parents that care enough about you to set and enforce rules than to haves ones that are oblivious to you existance and don't care what you do or how you turn out.

That’s because they know their children will be making trips to the refrigerator all day and will have that list where they can see it. No excuses saying they didn’t see the list
th3r0n · 41-45, M
At least it's not a surprise if you get in trouble, clear rules are better than being unsure
Kstrong · 56-60, F
They drew the line in the sand, if you do this, then this will happen. Their house, their rules. You dont like it, move out, get a job, pay rent, pay for your travels, car and insurance or public transport, health insurance, food, utilities, heat/air conditioning, blankets, furniture, towels, toilet paper, dishes, cook ware, everythinh comes withva price tag.... have at it girl, all the freedom you want.

[@sammyxo} Humans are basically stupid and generally refuse to learn from other people's mistakes. The majority of parents try to teach their kids things that will prevent them from making the same mistakes that they have made in their lives. Most of the kids ignore their parents' advice and end up the worse for it. You may have kids in the furture and they will tell you to shove your advice, just like you are telling your parents to do right now. When that happens don't get pissed off.
This is the best advice in the Bible that parents can give their kids:
Proverbs 1:8-19 (MSG) = "++++++++8-19 Pay close attention, friend, to what your father tells you;
never forget what you learned at your mother’s knee.
Wear their counsel like a winning crown,
like rings on your fingers.
Dear friend, if bad companions tempt you,
don’t go along with them.
If they say—“Let’s go out and raise some hell.
Let’s beat up some old man, mug some old woman.
Let’s pick them clean
and get them ready for their funerals.
We’ll load up on top-quality loot.
We’ll haul it home by the truckload.
Join us for the time of your life!
With us, it’s share and share alike!”—
Oh, friend, don’t give them a second look;
don’t listen to them for a minute.
They’re racing to a very bad end,
hurrying to ruin everything they lay hands on.
Nobody robs a bank
with everyone watching,
Yet that’s what these people are doing—
they’re doing themselves in.
When you grab all you can get, that’s what happens:
the more you get, the less you are."
