We did it every morning. I never needed a safe space, played competitive sports against girls, expected a medal for last place or someone else to pay my way in life.
What exactly is it about this you find so problematic? Better yet .. you being from the UK .. how is your opinion on what we do here relevent?

Nobody is made to do it
If the parents do not want them to participate they don't have to let them.
I don't see it as creepy.
I find a lot of things we try to teach kids, now to be a lot more creepy and not age appropriate than saying an alligance.

Our hope is that our children will bear allegiance to their parents, their family, their extended family, their neighborhood, their community, etc., etc., and their country. The assumption is that the allegiance is a two way street, and parents, family, etc. will all support the best interest of our children through life.

The flag is meant to represent a country. Teaching kids to respect the flag means you are teaching them to respect and be faithful to their country. You must not cherish the country you live in or you'd understand that teaching kids to be patriotic is a worthy endeavor.

@SpudMuffin Good. Stay on the island and mind your own business. For a change.

People will say it’s not and then say it’s creepy for them to recite the Lords Prayer. They like to pick and choose. There is nothing wrong with raising you kid to be patriotic. However, in that sense it’s weird.
UndeadSona · F
I mean patriotism isn't inherently problematic. And when exactly is the correct age to start?
The problem becomes when you mix patriotism and religion especially in a country that separated church and state

RedBaron · M
@smiler2012 Why don’t you take yourself and your mind seriously enough to be less careless about communicating in clear, accurate language?
More importantly, why do you think it’s OK to casually toss around offensive labels like Nazi?

5 year olds being taught to swear?! I'm shocked! 😱
They might be a bit young to understand other than a recitation of words. Too young IMO.
RedBaron · M
As opposed to teaching kids to sing about saving a king or queen that isn’t even elected, but only gets the title because of heredity and nepotism in a country where the majority of the population don’t even worship in the Church of England?
Nothing weird or creepy about that, is there?

No, not really. They're raising patriotic young people. Bet if it was a Ukrainian flag you'd be all for it.

@HobNoblin Tell me you know nothing about Ukraine without telling me you know nothing about Ukraine.

@Sidewinder How often was that?
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
as opposed to mutilating children to be something they're not? 🤔
pride49 · 31-35, M
Imagine having children sing about "running over the devil" at 3 to 4 in a Bible school. Good way to teach kids to gleefully kill whomever you decide is bad.
