Do you have a family member who thinks you don't like them?

I had a post-op appointment recently, and I invited my mother to go along so she could hear what the Doctor had to say. Afterwards, I took her to lunch and later dropped her off at home. The next day when she talked to my older sister, she said that she was surprised I took her to lunch because she didn't think I liked her. WTH?

I have complained here about my mother before and how she always dismisses me. But I have given her money to get her car fixed, she has spent the night at my house when her heat wasn't working, and she has called me when she needs help with something, yet she thinks I don't like her? That makes absolutely no sense and as much as I want to confront her about it, there's really no point.

Yeah, all of them. They are not wrong. I have no bond, no love for those who weren't there when i needed them or took a genuine interest in me, blood or no blood.

They were entitled and didn't deserve my attention.

I had a similar conversation with my mother recently.

How she knows she's more 'huggy' with my youngest sister and brother yet feels she doesn't have the same 'relationship' with either me (eldest son) or my other sister. (#3)

I think our parents just assign ideas about us over time.
Some siblings just get 'known' for being 'hit and run good time ' visitors.
It's a nice surprise when they turn up unannounced.
While others of us sort the day to day cooking/cleaning/bills and shopping.
I have relatives I don't like.

This may sound stupid, But her thoughts might be a gut feeling.

Sometimes you feel that people don't like you even though their actions says otherwise.
@LifeIsShort I understand.

my little sister thinks that i hate her for some reason. i have no idea why she thinks that and she’s thought it for years even when i go out of my way to be nice to her.

Yes, my Aunt believes, I deplore her.
I am always heading out whenever she is just arriving (perfectly bad timing) actually. She has taken that as me not liking her.

I dont have any family. So no one to not like. Theyre pretty much all deceased.

I have family members who know I don’t like them

Nah they'd know I don't act subtle about that
@pripyatamusementpark So their perception is correct. 🤣
She might feel you’re just doing those things out of a sense of obligation because she’s your mother.
@OlderSometimesWiser I get that, but it's not out of obligation. I have invited her to places she said she wanted to go and yet she declines. But if I invite my older sister to come along, she's all in.
@DreamyCrush The objective facts and how she feels may be two very different things. She doesn’t appear to be feeling “I like you” vibes. Your older sister being around might make her feel more comfortable and welcome.
@OlderSometimesWiser Understood. Thanks for your insight.😌
@Lilymoon I know. If confronted, all she'll do is deny it and/or claim she's being attacked and then I'll get the silent treatment. That's her M.O.
