Yes, my father was very present when I was growing up....and he was very present in my life until he passed away when I was 40. He's still frequently very much in my thoughts.

There's always the other side though, how he was doing everything to just not be home with us, how when he was home he was either exhausted, drunk, or both.

He keeps trying to have a "relationship" with me now that he is ill, but i'm not really interested. i DID however have other older male humans who unofficially adopted me a few times.
