It's called putting your ears on and keeping your mouth shut.
PatKirby · M
@Gibbon

Sorry gibbon, after all this time I can confirm you're not an asshat. Some people just cannot admit they may be wrong. And certainly not in public.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@PatKirby apparently I'm never wrong and extremely defensive. Makes me sound like my definition of Waveney and MarkPaul. It's supposedly a wide reputation. But those words came from someone on the left accusing me of being extremely right. I guess I probably am an asshat in their eyes
PatKirby · M
@Gibbon

"But those words came from someone on the left"... this makes all the difference in the world.

Confucius say "man who think by the inch, and talk by the yard should be kicked by the foot."

Try sympathizing first and then asking if they think this or that would work.
The approach means an awful lot.
If it sounds like a lecture or a command you're going to be tuned out.
Nimbus · M
@Justmeraeagain Excellent!
GoFish ·
he's cute but smoking
Nimbus · M
@GoFish I used to.
Gave it up a long, long time ago :)

@Nimbus nice my hub too
UKNaturist · M
I had a member of staff that used to say that about me 😂
Nimbus · M
@UKNaturist Ooops! :)
Munumbis · 46-50, M
The way to win is not to play the game.
Nimbus · M
@Munumbis Exactly!
She has a point though. Most of us hate talking to AI chatbots for the very same reason.
Nimbus · M
@DareToSayIT Good observation!
exexec · 70-79, C
That reminds me of what a wise lady told me back in my dating days when I tried to help a girl "friend" and seemed to fail. The lady told me that the girl didn't want me to offer solutions. She just wanted me to listen, really listen. It actually worked.
Nimbus · M
@exexec Great!
Ontheroad · M
Ha! She can't remember the question!
nobodyishome · 31-35, F
@Ontheroad I do. Allah does too :)
nobodyishome · 31-35, F
Not happening here :) Inshallah
4meAndyou · F
Women, (and some men), DO love to vent...and it is NOT about finding a solution...it's about blowing off steam.
Nimbus · M
@4meAndyou I agree.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
A lot of times, what she really wants is someone to understand and empathize with what she is going through. Immediately jumping to a solution can feel insensitive to her, in that it sounds as if he is minimizing what she is feeling.

And to be honest, in our marriage this usually happens with the gender roles reversed.
nobodyishome · 31-35, F
@DrWatson What are you talkin about? :)
Nimbus · M
@DrWatson Good point!
AbbeyRhode · F
There's some truth to that. Guys like to be helpful and solve problems, but a lot of the time, a woman is just venting. All she wants is someone to listen, and maybe a hug.
Nimbus · M
@AbbeyRhode Good point! ;)
Nimbus · M
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Not always one you want/need to hear? ;)
they can win they just need to learn how to shut women down
Nimbus · M
@vbxcfg Has that worked for you?
@Nimbus everytime
