Hope my dad's ok until morning

I visited him at his nursing home. He said he was really thirsty the other day and today, seemed more lethargic than usual. He sipped a drink but not enough. I asked if he'd like to go ER if he's dehydrated and he said no. But thinking back, he did have cold hands and he never really does. And his cheekbone looked a bit pronounced and ive not noticed that before. And looking that up online, they can be sgns of severe dehydration.

I didn't think or know that though. My mom's calling first thing in morning to try to get ambulance for him. I did tell nurse as I left to please have the doctor check him in morning for an evaluation as he also has a chronic fungal infection on his back. The doctor comes on Monday. I told her we weren't sure if he's dehydrated too , to please have doctor check that. But now my anxiety is high 😕 if I should have made him go in to the hospital. Ughhhh. I hope things are ok until morning 😟

@Coralmist you put your trust in nursing home staff too look after your parents and this is a common occurence across the board with these places sadly . may over worked or understaffed i do not know but it does not give you much faith when medically trained nurses cannot pick up some issue with your dad like you did

I had to spend two weeks in a nursing/rehab home.

It was horrible. Lonely old folks crying into the night. Staff talking in African languages loudly in the halls all night. And once one nurse in my room had to explain something in an African language to another person who was doing some service, about what to do. One word was in English related to my wound care. The other person said, "What is that?" Jeeze. My caregivers not only could not speak English but did not know about proper wound care. I was terrified. And TV's on all night. Nurses who do not respond to calls for help. Body smells in the night air. And constant fighting to keep insurance coverage. Doctor visits only twice a week.

I hope I never have to live in such a place again.

@JoyfulSilence Yes its unbelievable. The nurses run in , give his meds and quickly leave. They're supposed to turn him on his side Bec he's bed bound on his back Two years now, and he developed a fungal infection on his back. He said they don't turn him. Very frustrating Bec it can get worse if he remains again always on the back. And he said he waits an hour to get help sometimes for little things too.

@Coralmist

I developed a sore on my butt and had to wear a pad for a month.

It was all from not moving, and soiling myself.

It was a bad time. But they saved my life. Still, I wish I could at least have taken a shower. Wet towels just are not the same.

Tears come to my eyes reading this.
We as society allow this elder abuse by not holding those making the rules and regulations to account.
I hope your dad gets the help and care he needs.

@Gusman Thank you Gus...they've looked at him when he was ill or even had a wound and completely dismissed it . I just hope he's ok in the morning and he can be evaluated.
