Am i wrong?

So my sister's boyfriend is selling a small mobile home. He asked me if i wanted it and he would take payments. The landlord interviewed me and said all was great but then the next morning told me i cant live there because i know someone with a dog and no dogs are allowed in the park. I told him their dog has never been at my current apartment because i have a cat. He still wouldn't budge. So i said whatever and moved on.

A month later my sister calls and says good news he says you can have the trailer! I told her i dont trust the landlord and im not giving up my apartment because im afraid the landlord will burn me again. That he will just find reasons to write me up and evict me. The boyfriend already told me how the landlord finds things to nitpick about.

So now my sister and boyfriend are mad at me. Was i wrong not to take their offer?

Let me be the first to say mobile home park management companies are the absolute worst. Period.

If it isn't owned by a large company or corporation, it may be a bit better, but it depends.

Given your experience, who cares if you know someone with a dog? What does that have to do with anything? A weird reason to deny you. You can't control what other people have for pets.

I think you did the right thing.

@FoxyQueen he has a thing against dogs. He is a Vietnam veteran so all i can figure is he was attacked by dogs at 1 point. He specifically mentioned he hates German shepherds.

Thats ridiculous. Of course you're not wrong. How can they hold you responsible for anything any of your friends own? It's overreach like that that's taking a toll on our dog populations. My homeowners insurance providers sent me a list of dogs I wasn't allowed to have without my premiums drastically increasing. That's the day my Doberman Pinschers turned into mix breeds, ..which is really what all dog breeds are.

I wouldn't trust the landlord either, I wouldn't want anything to do with someone like that.

I don't think it's anything for them to be upset about, unless there's something they aren't telling you.

@ScreamingFox

I wondered about that, too.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
I think your decision was quite reasonable.

And I think your sister and her bf should be mad at the landlord rather than at you.
Ragnarock1276 · 46-50, M
@DrWatson a month ago she told me God has his reasons why I did not get the trailer today She tells me she stuck her neck out for me and I brushed her off.

@Ragnarock1276

It sounds as if you made it clear that your negative reaction was to the landlord and not to her.

That sounds like an odd reaction on her part.

I have to agree with @ScreamingFox and wonder whether there is more to the story than she is letting on.
Ragnarock1276 · 46-50, M
@DrWatson i know that part of it is that it has to be out of his name by the end of the month. They said if I don't buy it from them they will have to give it away. But he did tell me at this point he would just give it to me.
Not wrong. I wouldn’t trust the landlord either.
No.

You were and are right and the landlord is likely acting illegally.

@geoam1 its only the trailer for sale not the land. The landlord told me in the interview that he has evicted quite a few people. If they cant afford to move their trailer it becomes property of the park and he sells it.
No, you were being careful, which was smart. Your family is mad at the wrong person. The landlord is the one playing games.
Amylynne · 31-35, F
you were right

Sensible move on your part
rhouse · 56-60, M
No. That was a good decision.
AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
I think that you dodged a bullet.

Everybody knows someone with a dog
No, you weren't wrong. I would have been out of there after "you know someone with a dog". Too Twilight Zone / dystopian / nuts.

Probably crack a joke such as "Yeah there's no way I can live here. I know people with power tools also, in fact I admit I own them myself." ...... TF is that?? You can't know someone with a dog LMAO.

Insanity
Ragnarock1276 · 46-50, M
@Magicianzini my thoughts exactly. Today he said as long as they dont bring the dog over. But I've already heard too many crazy stories about him
@Ragnarock1276 Yeah, no reason to put yourself up for the type of misery that comes from dealing with someone like that.
YoMomma ·
Nah save yourself the grief.. it’s obviously a bad deal or someone else would take it 😒
Musicman · 61-69, M
You were very smart actually. Anyone who won't let you live somewhere just because you know someone who has a dog has mental problems. There is absolutely no part of that you want any part of.
Ragnarock1276 · 46-50, M
@Musicman the landlord is a Vietnam Veteran. I think he may have been attacked by dogs at some point. My sister's daughter brought her dog over. It's a puppy and it barked at him and he freaked out.

@Ragnarock1276 I'm more into cats, but the fact that just knowing someone who has a dog was an issue is super sketchy
Ragnarock1276 · 46-50, M
@th3r0n same here. I have a cat now. Ive only had ankle biter dogs. But i live alone now and wont leave a dog alone for 12 to 15 hours while im at work.

I agree its sketchy. Last year there were only 3 trailers left in the park. Everyone else moved out. Im beginning to see why.
th3r0n · 41-45, M
@Ragnarock1276 Yeah there's no guarantee that will go bad but that's plenty of reason to doubt that it will
