How will Brits survive ? 😯

Sainsbury's warns shoppers to prepare for tea shortage at UK supermarkets.
Brits' favourite cuppa is under threat as “supply issues” threaten to cause a shortage of black tea, a major supermarket has said.

You know what happened in America after the Boston Tea Party? Americans started growing and brewing herbal teas, teas with a number of good medical benefits. Red raspberry leaf tea, red sumac berry tea (tastes like lemonade), Labradore tea made from red root bush and gathered along riverbanks, chamomile, a variety of mints, bee balm, verbena, lemon and many other herbal teas along with various fruits or berries or rose hips. And then coffee was our official drink.

@Nimbus It helped calm me down a bit in the evening when I would drink two cups after being diagnosed this summer. I had to listen to certain types of soothing music on You Tube and would fall asleep with it playing till the videos or batteries played out, some last as long as 8 hours.

@cherokeepatti Good to hear!
I was a bit doubtful at first about it's alleged benefits but it does work!
@cherokeepatti Our Viking and Anglo-Saxon ancestors would turn in their graves if they knew we were drinking herbal tea!

And then coffee was our official drink.

Now that part sounds promising!

🤬That's it !
There'll be anarchy !
Rioting in the streets !

Daily Express readers declaring war on China/India/Kenya etc.

What is the world coming to ?
Nimbus · M
@Picklebobble2 lol, true.
I cannot read the DM anymore for the amount of ads that I can no longer block!
Not missing much though ;)
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Nimbus I remember flying on British Airways and they would offer free newspapers at the gate so I got a couple different ones. They seemed a lot like gossip rags and sensational news reports to me. I thought American newspapers were bad but we aren’t alone in that regard but the British newspapers were laugh-worthy. I had nothing better to do on a long flight but read them.
supersnipe · 61-69, M
@Nimbus I look forward to the quilted versions.
4meAndyou · F
Well, there is always Amazon. I suppose you could stock up and begin hoarding...🤭🤭🤭
Nimbus · M
@4meAndyou That's an idea! ;)
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Nimbus I stocked up on peppermint teas at the discount store and many other types too. The boy likes just about all types of hot teas.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
LOL! 'T'would be a right problem.

Brits please - i hate that slang word "Brits" , which I blame on The Sun newspaper!

For a start by no means everyone shops in Sainsburys, but reading the linked article soon reveals the problem is more feared than real, and temporary anyway.

Anyway, reporting some fear of some shortage is the worst thing anyone can do. Perhaps the supermarket chain has lost tea sales and is trying to drum up a bit of trade!
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
Switch to coffee?
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@Picklebobble2 I like tea ,but if we had a coffee shortage here in USA and somebody suggested we drink tea probably the same reaction 😂
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@Nimbus I like both
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Justmeraeagain Law of supply and demand says a tea shortage will be followed by a rise in the price of coffee..😷
AbbeyRhode · F
Switch to coffee? 😁☕❤️
Nimbus · M
@AbbeyRhode Yuck! :)
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
nedkelly · 61-69, M
@AbbeyRhode What do you expect from this Englishman, who drinks tea and eats blood pudding
smiler2012 · 56-60
@Nimbus 😆recycle your teabags nimby take the tea out after you use it [ taking the bags out of the cup before applying the milk] let them dry out take out the tea from bag and use the loose tea lol
Nimbus · M
@smiler2012 Yuck, you stingy ****** ;)
smiler2012 · 56-60
@Nimbus 🤔do i have to guess nimby what the missing word is then 😆
Royrogers · 61-69, M
Just like at the start of the pandemic when papers said there be no food
Nimbus · M
@Royrogers Good point.
The Express loves to alarm!
Royrogers · 61-69, M
@Nimbus and the Daily Wail
I only drink coffee 😏
@Nimbus How oldschool!
Really · 80-89, M
@BritishFailedAesthetic probably just a 'reactionary right-wing blue-rinse' person.
@Really ??????
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
So where do they usually get their tea? I find Sri Lankan tea a good cup and in several brands. Is it one or a few companies like Twinings? What is the holdup? Did the cargo shipping company get caught with “contraband” on board or what?
Nimbus · M
@cherokeepatti Houthi rebels on shipping vessels in the Red Sea are delaying shipping.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Nimbus If it’s bad enough they can air-lift tea to England can’t they, maybe charge an extra $1 equivalent per box of tea for it. Either that or start growing some herbs in pots in your gardens there. Not the same as black and green teas though, but still some tasty drinks.
Nimbus · M
@cherokeepatti Good point! ;)
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Thanks for letting me know. Twinings bags are 50% off here next week. I will pick up a couple..😷
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Nimbus Its just the first thing in the morning cup while I am here, before the wife stirs and I supervise her to go out for her coffee..😷
Nimbus · M
@whowasthatmaskedman The 'caffeine kick' ?
I used to enjoy that but the kick lasted all day and night!
I might be allergic to caffeine!
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Nimbus You have my deepest sympathies. Coffee surpasses alcohol by far on my list..😷
I shall keep my teabags….then sell them at £50 per teabag.
Postage not included.
Send your request to Sir Furry,Wales.
It’ll get here.
..
As long as there isn’t a hot chocolate shortage.
nedkelly · 61-69, M
I know you are heartbroken and called some of your mates from Liverpool to see if they have any "borrowed" tea packets for sale

If you are that hard up i will send you 20 packets 😁
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
Linked to piracy off the coast of Yemen, I think. Many ships from Asia are taking the longer route via the Cape of Good Hope.
Nimbus · M
@SunshineGirl Yep, prices will be higher.
Elessar · 26-30, M
So long as the supply of beer isn't endangered, I don't see the Barry's going anywhere 🍺🍺
WintaTheAngle · 41-45, M
We just won’t shop at Sainsbury’s I suppose.

Nimbus · M
@WintaTheAngle Sensible, the prices are high ;)
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
with the policies being implemented in the UK, I think tea will the least of their problems in the future...

between all the greenie nonsense and "weapon" bans... It'll look like an amish community with no pointy/sharp objects in 20-30 years...🤔
supersnipe · 61-69, M
A storm in a teacup? ☕🫖
OldBrit · 61-69, M
What
The
FUCK!

This could bring down the monarchy
jackieash · 26-30
@OldBrit Andrew Windsor is doing his best to do that.
jackieash · 26-30
As a coffee drinker, this won't affect me at all.
