I know that I am very much a failure when compared to my parents especially my dad.

SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
My dad was always my hero when I was growing up. He died when I was 22. Out of all my sisters, I am most like him.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
I aspired to have a similar or better relationship with my child to that which my mother had with me.
I'd say I'm well on track.

My father is emotionally abusive with narcissistic tendencies. I've never wanted to be like him, but I do have his stubbornness.

I was closer to my Dad , he was a cool dude and I think I have his personality and sense of humor

My parents have achieved much more than me so there’s no chance of me competing with them
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
I wanted to be nothing like my parents

Yh I believe its natural to want to be like the parent you admire most. For me its always been my father.

Who was a astute, Successful business man & very much Community oriented. I loved how he made a positive difference to the lives he touched.

My mother had qualities I respected, however she was extremely neurotic .

Yes I’d agree, most of us as boys want to grow up like and maybe surpass our fathers. He’s certainly the reason why I joined the military and through his example I’ve strived all my life to be a good husband and father like he is.

My parents were horrible people. When I don't know what to do I ask myself what would they do. Then I do the opposite.
That’s sweet. What were the qualities about him that you wanted to emulate?
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@Colonelmustardseed He was hard working, meticulous, systematic, analytical, reserved but not an introvert, Frowned often but that was more due to nagging toothaches rather than a foul temper. A sense of humor that wasnt sarcastic and a full throated laughter that went well with his baritone voice.
Lost him when i was 16.
Tell me about yourself.
@WandererTony It’s especially sad to lose a parent in childhood. My dad was with us till a few years ago, and passed away at 72 years old.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
Both my parents are raging narcissists. All I got from them is fucked up DNA an inferiority complex and a sick sense of humour.
Teslin · M
Yes, my dad left us way to early. He was always taking care of others. He is missed not only by me, but by many.
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
I'm trying to not be like my parents but to be my own person. But I can't deny I notice traits my dad has that I have. For example recently I learned my dad is very artistic and likes painting just like me. Among a few other things. My dad and I have a good relationship and he's in all my good core memories. I'm proud to be his daughter.
solitaire · 41-45, F
My dad is the only important man in my life. All the others are just absolutely useless.
Personality-wise, I’m most like my father. Unfortunately, some of those traits (reserved, blunt, independent) seem to be more admired in men. Pop’s also kind, loyal and reliable…I think I carry those traits as well. My mother was extroverted; outgoing and funny, which I admired greatly as a child. She was who I wanted to grow up to be, but it wasn’t happening. I look just like her, though. 😊

My Dad was a saint, my mother is an uber religious fanatical hypocrite whore.
