Article in our local paper this week about a candle light vigil held for a man being detained. He's been here for 20 years and is a popular server in a restaurant. His employers and everyone who knows him in town have nothing but good things to say about him.
He had some problem initially with his work papers and rather than wait for someone to knock on his door he went voluntarily to take care of it.
He's been detained and his family is unable to contact him.

An understandable sort of nightmare, seems to me. Just today, I listened to a nightmare come true account about a man who'd done everything required to comply with his legal refugee status...but was detained, imprisoned, and somehow 'disappeared', still.

@Captain And part of what they’re doing is trying to stop people from voting.
One of the Executive Orders seeks to require that one’s voter registration must be in the same name (first and last) as one’s birth certificate.
What our president either forgot—or didn’t is the number of women whose last names changed when they got married.
It begs the question whether or not he’s deliberately trying to lessen the number of women who can legally vote—or he just put his foot in it again. 🤨

@bijouxbroussard Oh I didnt spot that one. And to think women voted for a huy who was going to take away their rite to vote and their rite to safe abortion. Can you see why Europeans are beginning to feel alien to their American cousins.

I hope they don't come for me I did go through the path to citizenship and obtained it years ago however at the end of the day I still came from somewhere else though I've been here for over 20 years now.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@deepblacknothingness I would hope that someone who has been in the states for that long shouldn’t have to worry
bijouxbroussard · F
@Jenny1234 Unfortunately, that’s not the case now. Trump has been going after legal residents and repealing the programs that allowed residency. The amount of time doesn’t matter to him.
DaddyThomas · 46-50, MVIP
That’s great that you’ve traced back your ancestry. Not many former slaves know which country their ancestors came from.
I loved the tv series.
I do think it’s a crazy plan to deport all immigrants, but let’s start with the Trump family.
The only people we won’t never been deported are the Native Americans offcourse

@DaddyThomas Ironically, MAGAs in Arizona have been approaching Navajos demanding identification to prove they’re here legally.

This is of course appauling misguided and actually very unAmeircan. America is the same country that took loads of ex-Nazi scientists into the US after the second world war to boost their industries - most notably for the exploitation of space. To now be doing the reverse - presumeably for the least skilled and useful (I dont see Elon Musk being deported) is just part of this mind set. It may benefit the US in the short term but I think in the longer term it will hugely damage their international reputation. The last country to do this sort of thing - though obviously in a more barnaric way as time went on was of course Nazi Germany.

I'm sure he's far from the only American have those nightmares, citizen or not. :(
Rutterman · 46-50, M
I'd like to be deported to Canada right about now. They can skip due process and just send me there.
bijouxbroussard · F
@Rutterman I totally understand. 🥺

@bijouxbroussard A month or two back there was a story of how Trump was trying to abolish one of your Rights. Which would then enable him to deport anyone he did not view as 'American'. At the time I thought it was some BS his opposition had made up. But looking at what's been happening... You guys need to strike/protest or force him to leave office before its too late.
Captain · 61-69, M
@Thevy29 My heart goes out to every person whos going to be deported under this scheme and every woman whos going to have to deliver an unwanted child or go through a back street abortion. I know this was voted for but its selfish policies against some of the weakest in society and America needs to reconsider what it wants to stand for.
metaldog · 51-55, F
I dunno it might actually be better than being there!
bijouxbroussard · F
@Captain And those who could get to the U.S. were then safe. Ironic, isn’t it ?
It's out of control ...
Captain · 61-69, M
@catastrophecarnival Well only you can know that but it sounds very =ominous.
Is there a list of people who are MAGA or advocating it? That would come in handy later when America normalize, and they can be taken to court. There must grow an underground movement to save America for later.
Anniedlr · 26-30, F
An appalling situation - perhaps Trump should be deported to Stornaway without delay.
Anniedlr · 26-30, F
@bijouxbroussard I can’t disagree with you🙂
Captain · 61-69, M
@bijouxbroussard I think he'd stil be president though so..
bijouxbroussard · F
@Captain The "birthers" would to have to explain why.
GeistInTheMachine · 31-35, M
Don't give the Anti-Christ ideas.
bijouxbroussard · F
@GeistInTheMachine He already has them. American citizens are receiving notices.
Captain · 61-69, M
@GeistInTheMachine "The chosen one" - remember him saying that last presidency.
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
If they deported a 2 year old without due process anybody who is not white is fair game according to the maga nazis.
bijouxbroussard · F
@Longpatrol Two white American citizens reportedly received deportation notices.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@Longpatrol I read that the mother that was being deported wanted the 2yr old to go with her to her home country, and that the father who said he was going to come get the child, never showed up. So my question is why didn’t the dad show up for the child to keep her in the country?
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
Well you are pretty unamerican and devisive with your need to be respected :P
