Yes, because I suffer from asthma and am allergic to cigarette smoke, which further irritates my asthma to the point in which I can't breathe. The law, my health and frankly theirs is more important than their addiction.

have done so & will continue to do so

If I could smell it, it's blowing in my direction I would ask them if they could go to the smoking area. If they got all uppity with me I'd go and seek a manager. I haven't got the patience and sometimes having back up is needed.
Fernie · F
That is very reasonable
Peppa · 31-35, F
@Fernie: maybe in your eyes but they make areas non smoking for a reason. Sometimes for the comfort of guest others for health and safety. If they are the only person doing it. They are just being difficult.

Yes. You can always just flick water at them. They usually get the hint.
Or... ask the waiter/waitress to have three removed.

Everybody would
Not sure Everyone would!
Drdirt · 26-30, F
No, I probably wouldn't even notice. I'm so used to smoke
tallpowerhouseblonde · 36-40, F

Always
Noble · 56-60, M
Yep, I most certainly do.
Noble · 56-60, M
@CereBellum: True, fortunately I've never encountered anyone that's confrontational about it.
@NobleDebaucher: Curious: neglected to mention in my original post whether it would matter if it was cigarette or marijuana smoke?
Noble · 56-60, M
@CereBellum: No it wouldn't matter.

I wouldn't direct them, just give them a heads up on the existence of the sign.
Ever happen to you? Did it work?
Ynotisay · M
I don't have any problems with confronting people but I'd let that one slide.
YoMomma ·
I'd probly just leave
So, you would allow them to infringe on your rights?
Not judging, just inquiring.

I don't like to get into other people's face if I don't have to :)

Nope, I'm not the police.
Fernie · F
I am anti-authority so I'd applaud them

Really, really sorry about your wife.

Are we speaking of a no smoking area outdoors?
I mean...anywhere indoors is already non smoking....If they are smoking indoors then yes...someone ought to tell them that they cannot.
Unless they are in front of a building door then no..they have a right to smoke outside.

@JaggedLittlePill: What about if you were in your apartment, and the following year it was changed to non-smoking?
Fernie · F
@CereBellum: last June, smoking has been banned in all housing developments in Massachusetts. Can't even smoke in the home you pay obscene amounts of rent for. 1984 is here
@Fernie: But. . . many still do, I assume. Guess it's along the same lines as hotels. If caught at Marriott"s you are fined quite a bit.
Guy was caught on his balcony at around 3:00 am. Paid the fine at check-out and said, "Oh well".
