Self-centeredness? They think they HAVE TO go to the beach, a party or other large gathering, etc, etc, and that is more important than taking measures to ensure the safety of themselves and others? And, BTW, Rose415, I value and appreciate you healthcare workers and all you have done in these recent months!
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@dhemp Adding to the unwanted and foolish crowding, in my part of the world, has been the sheer lack of any respect some of these people have for the beaches or inland areas they visit.

As well as selfishly leaving masses of litter for others to clear at Council tax-payers' or landowners' expense, some have caused forest and heath fires by using and abandoning disposable barbeques and glass bottles in places left very dry by the long near-drought Spring we have had.

They have no respect for their surroundings, so clearly have no respect for anyone else, and none for themselves - so are hardly likely to care about pandemic-control measures.

Quetzalcoatlus · 46-50, M
They’ll take it seriously once they’re sick
Elessar · 26-30, M
@Quetzalcoatlus Oh you can say that for sure. I've heard of none of those recovering from a hospitalisation due to covid-19 taking it lightly.
Bluebirdsonmyshoulder · 46-50, F
I haven’t seen anyone not take it seriously personally
HermannFegelein · 26-30, M
@Elessar well what are we gonna do? Too bad it’s kinda difficult to persuade the masses huh! Gonna take a lot more than a post on Similar Worlds 😄
Elessar · 26-30, M
@HermannFegelein Quite the opposite actually, you see how easy it is to persuade them with some fake news, most people will believe anything and everything. 🙈

Agreed, but since I have the day off work and nothing better to do, no harm is made questioning crazy people on here I suppose lol
dhemp · 80-89, M
@Bluebirdsonmyshoulder Personally, no, I haven't seen anyone not taking it seriously. What I have seen are news reports showing large numbers of people at the beach, out on a nice spring day crowded together to see/do whatever, etc. Not good.

Hello Rose. First let me thank you for all the hard work you have done.

I think it would help if there were more photos of people who are actually dead. Whenever there is war I have the option to see disturbing photos and videos of dead bodies. There isn't so much of these type of photos with what is happening now. And often the ones seen so far are inside body bags. This covid-19 has claimed so many lives as if we are in a war yet unlike war, it is hidden from us. I think it is harder for people to put things in perspective if there are no photographs and videos that put us more directly to what is happening. I think there's always gonna be those who wont take it seriously but with photos and videos we might get some of them to change their minds.
SW-User
@IHateMyLife0MeDie Good idea. We need photos of deceased people who are unable to be buried, because people can't really have funerals right now, right?
We are in a time of misinformation Thanks to the internet it spreads fast. Once people get an idea in their mind it's tough to convince them otherwise.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
They are cowards and fools.

I wonder some of the most stridently mocking and harassing - and worse, the idiots who physically attack the health and emergency-services staff - are actually very frightened of the disease. So they try to hide their fear behind a warped, false bravado, but then let that consume them to the point of losing self-control.

Or, perhaps out of the same fear and bravado, are so frustrated by the restrictions most of us are able to tolerate that they have brainwashed themselves into believing even the health services are their enemies.

Others may simply have chosen anyway to be antisocial, selfish, foolish cowards with no respect for themselves, let alone anyone else.
SW-User
@ArishMell Good point. I think it is probably a combination of those things for people, which has caused people to start lashing out.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@SW-User I suppose some are simply weak and it does not take much to push them over their personal edge - though that is still certainly no excuse for their behaviour.
Zoranna · F
I think that's despicable personally; totally selfish and uncaring. The heathcare workers: doctors and nurses etc are the ones on the front line putting their own lives, and those nearest and dearest to them, at risk to help strangers. Utterly despicable!
SW-User
@Zoranna Thanks🌹. It's my passion so I'll be doing it for many more years.
Zoranna · F
@SW-User You're welcome. You should be very proud of yourself for your dedication and passion. I am and of all the other countless unsung heroes out there. Keep safe.

I've said it before, that I wonder how those same people would react if ya'll went on strike.
SW-User
@SubstantialKick Well I really need the job so I can't do that 🤷🏼‍♀️.
SubstantialKick · 36-40, M
@SW-User Understandable.
Miram · 31-35, F
The pandemic has been politicized, and lot of people are spoiled who can't cope without luxurious nonsense.
SW-User
If it’s not affecting them, they don’t care, although there is some abuse of power by the government amongst the necessary lockdowns. For example, local green grocers have to close but supermarkets can stay open?
when they realise that covid tests and getting confined really cost TOO MUCH and an ordinary person with no proper healthcard wouldnt be able to pay it
Elessar · 26-30, M
@Dewms There are countless ways to keep the cost/feasibility of testing lower tho, e.g. pooling (in very simplicial terms: you "mix" various swabs and test the mix, if you get a negative PCR you know they're all negative, and only if you don't you proceed person by person), or integrating with immunoassays, not testing random people but trying to trace the contacts of every positive, just to name a few.
skip2mylou · 31-35, M
Here in NYC its soooo bad. I see people in large groups, partying, playing sports etc.. Many of whom don't have masks or gloves. It's getting crazy. I knew once the warm weather came people were going to come out more. Its too sad.
SW-User
@skip2mylou well I’m no doctor or nurse, I work in supply chain for vet pharmaceuticals. Not really saving lives. It scares me though as public transport is my only source of travel. My partner is a home disability carer so she should take the thank you lol.
But we share a car and I drive her to and from work at evening shifts and she only works twice a week and studies uni at home.
But I suppose out of my house hold I’m first one to put my hand up to take one for the team, keep the rest of the household safe while I live dangerously and essentially.
skip2mylou · 31-35, M
@SW-User I thank both of you, because at the end of the day you're risking your lives to keep things moving forward and I appreciate it. I hope and pray you all stay safe, and hopefully things calm down soon.
SW-User
@skip2mylou cheers bro. Things are slowly but surely calming down, we have a death rate of only 100 so far and only 500 active cases with 6000 recoveries. But one thing we need to be wary of is not just the virus itself, there is also quite a lot of misleading info to work out what’s real and what’s not and yes the virus is real, I’m referring to the intentions behind it and what outcome and endgame plans coming up which scare me more than the virus itself, that’s why we need to appreciate our lives and the people we love while we have the love and the life.
bookerdana · M
I remember hearing about this a while ago, both in the U.S. and Australia..it makes zero sense. I'm just glad you guys are there, putting on the line for us❤️
Exhibiter100000 · 61-69, M
I agree with you totally. I hate people saying that Covid19 is fake news brought on by Liberal Democrats. I’m a Democrat and I truly believe we should be very careful with Covid19 and other people. Take it seriously and wear your masks around other people for there’s and your health too
gol979 · 41-45, M
@Exhibiter100000 masks aren't for our health
SW-User
Republicans are the ones making people sick by downplaying the threat for their so-called economic policies, they brainwash their supporters by any means necessary, use the average people as guinea pigs and for their so-called liberty even if means letting people get sick and infected.
Some people just don't care or think it's a joke. Now Covid-19 is getting worse.
SW-User
@CraftyMarieArts Yep, sadly 😔.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Said it before when 10% of their friends and relatives have died. Sadly they just might get their wish. 😔
Pfuzylogic · M
dumpy has made it political.
You would think that when the U.S. has 1/3rd of the cases and 1/3rd of the deaths compared to 4% of the worlds population that dumpy is one pathetic president.
Pfuzylogic · M
@SW-User
He claimed overcounting.
His own doctors said there was at least a 10% undercount to be very conservative. This doesn’t include miscounted. We were at a pace to stay under 100,000 deaths. We will now easily Double that.

He/dumpy is truly a danger to the country.
SW-User
@Pfuzylogic He is a danger and his followers are so busy worshiping him, that they are blind to it.
Pfuzylogic · M
@SW-User
There is so much of his KoolAid being sold it is frightening. His twitter account should be cut off. It is the fake news.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
They haven't felt or seen the disease personally. Those who question it are easily played fools.
Elessar · 26-30, M
In the previous centuries people died because they didn't have (modern) medicine, now people die because they're idiots, some to the point of refuting medicine itself.

Besides, nothing will convince me more than this pandemic that the great majority of people are just forever children in a grown body.
SW-User
@Elessar Like the U.S. president. He is pretty much a man-child is what he is.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@SW-User Politics (in charge) are an elected subset of the population, so...
JBird · F
They're arrogant, stupid and uneducated. I am from a developing country and even people from my country are smarter than the trash calling Covid a hoax
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@ninalanyon Sorry - obviously a reference to a story or something but one not familiar to me.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@ArishMell The disease is COVID-19, a CORVID is a crow, magpie, jay, etc.

Just a feeble joke.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@ninalanyon Thank you Ninalanyon.

I know - :-)

I am afraid I started pronouncing it "corvid" thanks to conversations with a friend who goes bird-watching, and his daughter naming the Corvid family as her favourite birds!
