Is it rude for someone to call you randomly to see if you are free to hangout, and if you don't answer and message them an hour later, they say "I had

some spare time, that's why I called. I might be free tomorrow, I'll let you know."

How about you just organise your life and book in time when you're free, not try your luck whenever.

I do not think it is rude, just a spur of the moment thing. Not like the person was hostile about you not hanging out, just was checking in the moment. Maybe the person does plan or just goes on a whim, but it is not really rude to check with someone.
Nope not rude, just some spur of the moment free time they thought would be nice to spend with you.

I learned long ago that I’m not the center of anyone’s universe and take situations like this very much in stride. Makes relationships go a whole lot smoother.

It wouldn’t bother me. If someone wants to guarantee time with me, it is necessary to plan things in advance, but if there are some last minute plans it doesn’t bother me to be invited.

I don’t think it’s rude, some people are more spontaneous.

Not rude at all. Its a fast life now and people reach out when they have spare time. They wont mind if you dont have time now. They know that it can happen only when both have spare time at the same time.

And inclination too, of course. 😊

They don’t seem to know in advance when they’ll be free
