There is no mistake. There is a reason I thought that was the right person or situation. Usually it's mirroring something inside me or lacking in me and it's for me to figure out what and heal that.

To understand ourselves and our choices is our only way to learn.
And eventually heal.

Actually I do take inventory and always work from the assumption that I made the mistake and was the problem. Sometimes that is true, sometimes it is not. Either way I learn from that and try not to repeat it.
FrozenWasteland · 61-69, M
For many years, my first, and sometimes only, reaction was to blame myself. For a whole pile of reasons, some maybe good, some really bad. That's pretty human, I think, but it's certainly unhealthy.
I'm not at the "Just say YIKES and move on" stage, but I have realized that, for the most part, my mistakes are learning experiences, so I do my best to take what I can from them and carry on. And try my best not to repeat the same ones.

I think, like a couple of others have said, that there's an element of blaming myself for not seeing the red flags which helps me to learn a lesson and move on.
I wouldn't want to move on without learning the lesson.

Like any mistake you make... You can stand still and continue to beat yourself over the head with it or you can learn from it and move on

@CookieCrumbs it's a shame that so many still try to undo the original mistake and make it better.... As you say, often you can't and to try is to wear time and effort
Reject · 26-30, M
I always blame myself. That’s how I learn the lesson. Otherwise I wouldn’t.
fun4us2b · M
Yes, I see it as my creation...silly, but that's how I see it...

I also think we should “own” some of it.

I tend to do a quick analysis of the situation to try to understand why I made the mistake. I don't want to repeat it. Then I move on and don't worry about it.

@CookieCrumbs This is profound.

We can’t control how the next person or situation is going to be like. So it is best that we learn OUR part in the mistake because that is the only one we can correct.

I can’t say I’m ever glad but geez. If I beat myself up for every time I’ve been slow on the uptake, I’d never see the light again. It’s just part of my nature. I will find something to love and take too long to notice that it has bitten me.
It is not called mistakes but experiences coz all humans' needs do not match just like the size of fingers in the same hand. Basic religion stays the same being humane which is enough to tolerate each other.
Caleidoscope · F
I blame myself instantly but after sometime I realise that there is probably something to learn about it so I shrug off.But usually I'm my biggest critic
CookieCrumbs · F
@Caleidoscope
There is always something to learn. We should just hope we learn the right lessons.

They always bring some good, some smiles, evoke some positive emotions and reactions. We can focus on what was good and what was learned as we move forward wiser from the experience
CookieCrumbs · F
@GJOFJ3
Agree with you.
It’s best to focus on the good and the lessons we get to keep.
Move on. Tomorrow is another day.

I always accept responsibility for my actions, and hope to learn for any future endeavors.
It's pointless and counterproductive to try and shed blame onto others.
It's also cowardly.

I move on. Sometimes even before I have the chance to clear them/it out of my life. I move on because I love experience and will not settle for feeling poorly.

I blame myself and I blame them depending on the case (sometimes one is completely guilty other times the other person or both) .
And continue learning..

I agree with you. It’s not only about them. It is about our choices too.
We learn the lesson as we go along.

It use to bother me, but as you get older, you say Yikes, what was I thinking? And move on. 🤦🤷♂️
CookieCrumbs · F
@Teslin
You’re right! It has to do with age and experience.
As you get older, you become more forgiving of yourself and your mistakes. 🤦♀️ 😂

Hmm i wish i could just shrug and move on. I'd probably blame myself one way or another, this i am quite sure of.

Maybe a bit of both - I'm typically a good judge of character early on.
