Why am I always tortured in my dreams?

Like how many break-in nightmares am I gonna have??

I wonder if there is anything I can do about this.
I live in a decent area, (I didn't before)

But geez, I've been where I am for about 7 months. I've been having these types of nightmares for years.

And I have actually experienced a break in before as a child.
A store I worked at was robbed and I was shot at.
2 years ago, a "neighbor" 2 houses down house was nearly broken into. I was told they ran off when her alarm went off.

I'm tormented even when i'm not awake😔

Scary and it embeds in your memory. Our home was broken into several times when I was a teen and we’d discover things missing such as my baby book with photos etc. Up to a couple years ago I would sometimes have nightmares about being in that same rural house at night and looking out to see men prowling around and trying to
Keep them from breaking in. The dreams stopped after I looked on Google Earth and saw that the house was gone and a new one built in a slightly different place on the land. I hope I never have any more of those dreams

I have dreams/nightmares for different reasons. It is more subverted like the dreams are fine but waking up is the bad part despite not thinking of that one thing usually - or not trying to, for long periods. I really have no say in it. It was not a violent thing like this but something very different. Not sure I would say that I have come to terms with it but it's something that has followed me around and so I have to kind of just accept it in some way because it is bound to happen again.

Perhaps consider a new hobby or something that instils you with a sense of safeness and security if such a thing is at all possible; martial arts - Krav Maga being perhaps most applicable in the actual real world - and maybe weapons training of some sort. A handgun and/or shotgun, rifle or whatever.

[I checked your profile to see if USA so I am regret if this is irrelevant/useless advice. I hope it is of use.]

@SW-User I tend to have nightmares when asthma or heartburn are present. It is disturbing to sleep. I had a nightmare that the neighbor’s house was on fire and woke up with stomach acid in my throat

@cherokeepatti Ouch. Is there any kind of preventative you can take for that?

@SW-User Get my diet straightened out. Am taking Moringa leaf powder, magnesium and some other stuff to help. Also, ironically, drinking lemon juice & water helps to neutralize it.
Could be PTSD from you getting shot at in that store. They have a very mild medication that will help with the dreams some therapy would help. Consider yourself like a soldier that has been in war.

Have you thought about therapy? Maybe they could pinpoint the cause and help you move past it. Restless sleep isn't healthy. Therapy has helped me get through some rough patches.
Being shot at would make you have nightmares for a while… whoa

Don’t read the news before bed!!

Last night I had a dream my husband moved another woman into our home and told me to move out. It took me all day to realize it was the exact story line of a movie we watched last week (Tapestry)

@Jenny1234 yea I don't read news before bed. I also don't even look at scary movies anymore.

@iamnikki really you have no control of your subconcious when you sleep and the mindplays games

I guess, the fear is still in your subconscious. Try NLP

Dreams are usually a manifestation of what you are feeling and sometimes a dash of plain old imagination.
You are feeling some apprehension so you dream about these things.

@REMsleep I feel I'm ok but I definitely lived in fear before.
