I prefer taekwondo. It's very much like yoga, except I get to hit things. And on the beach every morning about 0500.

@sarabee1995 wow, 5 am that is crazy early ! What does your beach workout look like (loosely speaking) Sounds really cool and relaxing
sarabee1995 · 31-35, F
@robertsnj Keep in mind that I am freshly off active duty with the Navy, so very early mornings are still my norm (although I've always been generally a morning person). I wake somewhere between 0400-0500 every morning with no alarm (I'm in bed and on here around 2200 most nights and asleep usually before 2300). So, morning workout? Well this is a habit I got into a very long time ago...

I've been studying taekwondo since I was seven years old. During early high school I began getting much more serious about it and that entailed a daily workout. Growing up in a very touristy beach town made access to the water easy for me. So, I started back then with a morning walk to the beach (less than a quarter mile), stretches, taekwondo forms, and my run. Once I started working with the Bo staff, all of that was with my Bo in my hand (yes, even the run).

Today I live in a condo complex in the same town and am much closer to the water so its out my back door, down to the water and a very similar routine: I've added a body-weight workout, the run is longer, & the taekwondo forms more complex,

I do yoga in my living room. I'm introverted and don't want to exercise in a group.
robertsnj · 56-60, M
@DearAmbellina2113 can you talk your boyfriend into doing yoga with you?
sarabee1995 · 31-35, F
@DearAmbellina2113 My workout is solo as well. And for the same reasons. I've had many people, even partners, ask if they could join me for my run. I have one condition: You can run next to me if you want but do not talk to me. My workout is very much my me-time.

I have only tried at home or in gym class but I'm pretty sure I'd enjoy it in a park and in a group too.
robertsnj · 56-60, M
@Queendragonfly I like outdoors too. I just stretch, isometrics but have done yoga a bunch of times. I don't need a group. I stretched on the beach this morning at 9 AM watching the waves ebb in and out. Seagulls were mulling about. They are really tame and come really near everyone. I kept my tank top on because I am really light skinned. I forgot how relaxing beach stretching (or sometimes beach yoga) is and came back here to ask others about it.

I have been able to go to a beach yoga class twice, they were fantastic! The sand shifting constantly underneath my feet made it a lot more challenging, was super fun.
NewRaven · 56-60, F
@robertsnj that is a great idea
robertsnj · 56-60, M
@NewRaven hard to say. It probably would be expensive to do. Big financial risk. The other piece is that many outdoor yoga instructors use beaches and parks specifically to avoid the cost of a brick and mortar location. It sounded good when I typed it but now that I took time to think about it --that instructor would need to be pretty comfortable with risk to take on a venture like that.

@robertsnj all fair points
