Some people are just have no empathy, there are some sick individuals in this world.
nonsensiclesnail · F
I think it is possible that they are clueless to the reality of the events the took place there. They may know the stories, but they don't really understand them. I think of it as the difference between an education and an experience. Easy to overlook/ forget the education, but you cant ever forget the experience. They don't connect with the experience.
As AngelUnforgiven said, they have no empathy.

I think these are the same people who say "the Confederate flag isn't about slavery; it's about Southern culture."
They associate plantations with an elegant way of life with fancy dress and mint juleps, but somehow manage to ignore who made that life possible, and at what cost.

@bijouxbroussard German families managed to honor the memories of their fathers without flying the Nazi flag.
bijouxbroussard · F
@DrWatson Absolutely right ! Moreover, Germany recognized the Nazis as a shameful part of the country’s past and made flying or wearing any swaztikas or Nazi symbols illegal.
Lovesungoddess · 22-25, F
@DrWatson yep, when Germans celebrate their heritage they don't celebrate by flying Nazi flags, instead they celebrate Oktoberfest and eat German cuisine.
If I were a Southerner, I would rather have my grandmother's yummy Southern cooking and sweet tea than to fly the slavery and traitors flag and glorify and romanticize atrocities of the past because of "heritage".
Also there's plenty of Southern abolitionists to celebrate.

I feel the same way myself. I would not want to start a union in the imprint of such torture and sorrow nor give their ancestors any of my money.

It's not on the table for me, but I'd feel uncomfortable about it, and my fiancee would, too.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@bijouxbroussard I think there are a lot of people who think that if it didn't happen to THEM, it didn't happen.
bijouxbroussard · F
@uncalled4 Exactly.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@bijouxbroussard I don't know what I would do if a close friend/family member booked something at such a place. I don't believe they would.

Hello there. I am Mandy. How are you? I messaged you, but it is waiting for a reply, if you so choose

Spanish Inquisition doesn’t put people off Catholic Church weddings, neither does the abuse scandal. Location weddings are also not chosen based on the history between that country and the USA. The demographic that are having these weddings is important to know.
HumanEarth · F
I don't give a shit where the wedding is at. Its not the place, but the person I'm going to be with
I didn't need the fancy formal clothes or the need of specific location.
I'm happy being married in a pair of raggy old bell bottoms jeans, tye dye shirt and bare footed.

Churches aren't much better - yet that's considered to be more "socially acceptable" to some people.
hunkalove · 70-79, M
Or mansions. I went to a wedding in a mansion and I kept getting bad feelings about the place, like it was haunted by insatiable greed. What a sad way to begin a marriage.
BohemianBabe · M
Well they're not still using slavery today. Plantations aren't inherently bad.

@AngelUnforgiven
I'd have to agree with you, it seems disrespectful at the very least, and morbid at its worst.

Some people just don’t see a problem with any circumstance that doesn’t or didn’t affect them, or anyone who matters to them.
To them it’s just a "pretty" site. 🥺

AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
@bijouxbroussard exactly, you hit the nail on the head! like I said no empathy, humanity is just lost on some people and thats sad as hell!
Lovesungoddess · 22-25, F
@bijouxbroussard yep definitely and it's sad. Looks can be deceiving and because something looks "beautiful" doesn't mean it's good.
The most so called beautiful places can have the darkest history ever.

I didn't know they actually taught history in school anymore. 🫤

Awkward is an understatement. These people are sociopathic and they romanticize and long for the days of free labor and a racial caste system. They act like they're drawn to the beautiful architecture and landscape but it's something more sinister.
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
Why wouldn't they? It's whoever's choice
thrash · 31-35, M
why would anyone breathe on earth
BabyLonia · F
Do plantations still exist?
bijouxbroussard · F
@BabyLonia That, too, would be a fair option no one involved would agree to.
bijouxbroussard · F
@BabyLonia Y’know, for the longest time I wasn’t that concerned about reparations, until I did a bit of research. Reparations for the newly-freed slave families (and there was a much more manageable number of them then) right after the Emancipation Proclamation, was proposed in a field order by General Sherman, and the money was set aside.
But under President Andrew Johnson, (a Confederate sympathizer) the money was handed over to, of all people, some of the largest former slaveowners to compensate them for their "loss of property" when slavery was abolished. 🤬

Guess they don't care

Why would anyone not involved in it think their opinion on it matters?

@BrandNewMan💛 well said
calicuz · 56-60, M
Only MAGA would be so disrespectful. They are classless people, true lovers of self.
