Thanksgiving specials

Aside from turkey, stuffing, etc., what food do you Americans (and Canadians) enjoy the most at your Thanksgiving table. A school friend -- southern and African American -- has a family recipe for collard greens with walnuts and turkey chunks. I could make that my entire Thanksgiving dinner! How about you?

The freshest available fish from the Atlantic, could be Wahoo, Amber Jack, Grouper, Snapper, Tile fish, whatever they caught.

@LeeInTheNorthWoods I love trout and the upper Midwest! With the wahoo I serve steamed collard greens, fresh sweet potatoes, cornbread. Everything grows locally. Simple and good.

@BackyardShaman If I bring a pie, can I come to your house for dinner? 😊

@LeeInTheNorthWoods yep!!! Anytime!

Baked ham, green bean casserole, pecan pie, a dry rose wine, a rack of ribs, burnt ends ...

Oh? running out of table space? it's OK to skip the turkey and replace it with a baked chicken, or small stuffed Cornish game hens.

This whole Thanksgiving meal planning is fun in itself. Our daughter is visiting and we are so looking forward to this Thanksgiving.

Tomorrow also looks like a good day to watch an old movie to fit in the spirit of Thanksgiving. If likewise so inclined, I suggest re-watching Bebette's Feast. If you've never seen it, do so,

Our traditional pre-dinner snack is corn-nuts.

My grandson named it Memore Salad. He liked it so much as a toddler learning to talk that he would say "Me More" wanting second and third helpings.

Growing up, we always had:

Appetizers- black olives, baby pickles, and deviled eggs

Main course- turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, steamed garlic green beans (no one liked green bean casserole), sweet potato casserole, cornbread dressing, and cranberry sauce. (Soooo many carbs 🤢)

Desserts- pecan pie, apple pie
