I like to watch the huge displays on TV these days. I have BEEN to local town shows in the past...suffered the mosquito bites, and the cricks in my neck from looking up, and sneezed at all the smoke...and they are never of such incredible beauty and lengthy duration as the professional shows.
When I was a little girl in Nebraska we were WELL cautioned about the dangers my Uncles had endured, setting off their fireworks from coke bottles out in the fields, and sometimes having their fingers burned.
WE were allowed sparklers, and caps, and those little snake things that turn to black and curl up on the sidewalk.

I sort of like them. Very traditional, and I like tradition.

When younger, I loved 'em to do when in greener environs - around the holiday (4th and New Year's) only. Tried to be respectful of times and duration for neighbors' sake.
Drier environs, I avoid them due to fire danger.
I do not appreciate months of fireworks.
As an older adult, I understand the ptsd in humans and non-humans more viscerally. If done, it would be best to be away from others.

@cherny They can be scary.
@robbie2499 I just don't like loud noises

I always wondered how many times in his life a guy can hear "BOOM" before it gets old. I'm not a fan of fireworks. They made my dogs hide and tremble.
It's not 4th of July, it's fireworks SEASON . June 28 - Labor Day. 🙄

@Horace I agree. It gets old quick. My young German shepherd did fine with them, thank goodness.
Bri89 · 36-40, M
I don't shoot them off, but I don't mind them either. I don't think that they are as loud as they were when I was a kid.

A pain in the ass, scares dogs, people with PTSD, etc. Be much happier with laser light shows.
robbie2499 · 61-69, F
@ChipmunkErnie Laser light shows is a great idea!

They're a beautiful way to get a lot of noise and air pollution
luckranger71 · 51-55, M
Seeing them once or twice is enough.
robbie2499 · 61-69, F
@MasterLee It's the same where I live. It gets to be a huge nuisance more than anything.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@robbie2499 most here are of Mexican descent. When they run out they shoot guns in the air.
robbie2499 · 61-69, F
@MasterLee Oh dear Lord...
LordShadowfire · 51-55, M
I personally love them, but I am very concerned about the very real issues that are being brought up, both environmentally and trauma-wise.

Last night was far and away the least noisy 4th I’ve seen in many years. I far prefer that to endless explosions all through the weekend.

It's only once a year. People should chill out
WillaKissing · 61-69, M
I like them, but I have to constantly remind myself they are fireworks and just a celebration display. Subconsciously I am looking for where the enemy fire is coming from.
