A Plea to Amateur Fireworks Enthusiasts, on this 4th of July Weekend/Take 2

Please do at least consider, restricting setting off your loud fireworks to a reasonable timeframe. Not 2 or 3 days before or after THE day, for instance, or at all hours. Your loud booms terrorize both wild and domesticated animals, including, of course, those that people often refer to as "pets".

https://www.animal-ethics.org/how-fireworks-harm-nonhuman-animals/

From the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service:
The shock of fireworks can cause wildlife to flee, ending up in unexpected areas or roadways, flying into buildings and other obstacles, and even abandoning nests, leaving young vulnerable to predators. The threat to wildlife doesn’t stop at startling lights and sounds; fireworks also have the potential of starting wildfires, directly affecting wildlife and destroying essential habitat. Litter from firecrackers, bottle rockets and other explosives can be choking hazards for wildlife and may be toxic if ingested.
For those who may be indifferent to the terror and potential harm the loud booms of fireworks cause to animals of the non-human kind, fireworks can and often do start fires. Many places have been experiencing varying degrees of drought conditions, and are 'tinderboxes'.
There are also lots of veterans in some areas with PTSD that don't handle explosions well.

@stound Yes, someone recently submitted a post about that. It was surely a good reminder for those who don't much care what harm they cause to animals of the non-human kind...but might care about veterans who experience PTSD.
Last year everything was tinder dry here on the 4th and everyone was still setting off the fireworks with reckless abandon. I was seriously worried they might start a fire in the fields around my house, where all the grass was like dried hay. This year it was even drier up to last week when we got some heavy downpours. Up to then I was seriously dreading what might happen.

@robingoodfellow It's been that way here too, both in the past and currently. One New Year's Eve a few years ago, there'd been a long period of no rain. I remember looking out from my back porch and seeing rains of sparks landing on surrounding roofs and trees, and being so relieved that nothing caught fire.

Have you seen the typical amateur redneck fireworks enthusiast? I doubt they consider anything except if there's enough beer to go around. But what can one expect from people who can't get enough BOOM?

@LoneVoice Maybe. That guy looks more like the stereotypical image of a white, suburban, middleclass 'everyman' to me, though, than how "rednecks" are usually portrayed.

If even one person cares about and considers the plea of the post, I figure it was worth the time it took to compose and submit it.
@Piper I care, but then I don't do fireworks and I'm already an animal lover.
Many a times I held my trembling babies in a closet during fireworks.

Good luck
People are selfish
We've had booms starting Thursday
My one pup didn't even notice
The other did (including thunder) & curls up with me

They do make noiseless ones and this is one thing i think we need more government involvement (can't believe i just said that) in to outlaw them

in my old neighborhood there were some renters a couple of houses down that seemed to want to re-enact every major US battle at the same time - glad to be out of there.
MethDozer · M
@Pretzel that's what's up.
@MethDozer I know, right? Where is this neighborhood, and how can I join it?
Drill, baby, Burn!
Sociopathic people don't know what driving cars as a lifestyle has to do with the fires and the burning.
Lolz! Drive, baby, burn, baby drill!
It's fun to be the cause of something great, like an extinction. Crackle and pop while you can!
Piper · 61-69, F
@Roundandroundwego For many people, owning or using a car for transportation is pretty much a necessity. Shooting off loud fireworks for days or at all hours, definitely is not. Neither, of course, is using them at all.
@Piper i'm so impressed that you deciphered that! 😃
Piper · 61-69, F
@robingoodfellow Well, sociopathic people do surely drive cars. 🙃
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
2 or 3 days isn't enough. I know people that shoot off fire works up to November and December
MartinTheFirst · 22-25, M
Meh, light it up boyz
HannahSky · F
@MartinTheFirst do you guys have them for a holiday or anything?
MartinTheFirst · 22-25, M
@HannahSky 🦔🔥 🎇*boom* 😎

@MartinTheFirst *sticks a 🧨up your 🍑
My plan this year is to find something that will work as a platform, preferably a cul-de-sac, where there isn't much vegetation. If there are neighbors around, well, it's Sherwood. Everybody in town seems to want to reenact their favorite war every year, so I'll blend right in.
MethDozer · M
I try and do them in the middle of a road to block any traffic anyway. It's more fun watching people on a highway have to stop and wait and then laughing at them being pissed.
