AI-based warfare. The Invasion in Ukraine has seen hundreds of thousands of casualties despite Russia having one of the world's most well-funded militaries. The War on Terror saw so many lives lost, particularly civilians, and produced trillions of dollars of waste to ultimately cede control to the Taliban. Netanyahu is facing severe backlash for his handling of the War in Gaza. Turns out carpet-bombing women and children isn't really going to win a lot of praise.
I think you couple that with many nations increasingly relying on social media disinformation campaigns in an attempt to destabilize their enemies, it's a matter of time before we start fighting technology with technology. Once we learn to rely on AI for our security, it's only a matter of time before we rely on it for war.

Right now it still has human beings at the helm, but we won't be able to match AI's decision-making speed or information processing. With the military there's always a chain of command, but in an AI-centered war decisions will need to be made instantaneously in order to be effective. There's the very real possibility of human lives being lost based on the whims of robots.
And they're not going to have the same moral compunctions that we have.

And there in lies the problem. Will AI come to the same conclusion as inhumane military leaders, that sacrificing one's own troops, to kill the enemy, is an acceptable loss?
