Nope. QLD australia and you can only buy paper or reusable bags.
Matt85 · 36-40, M
UK they sell them, 30p per bag at Asda.
FreeSpirit1 · F
I live in Massachusetts and my town has no rules against it but some stores don't use them on their own, they all still use paper bags though

@FreeSpirit1 Massachusetts here as well and, yeah, the stores I use have the paper bags.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
Only independent shops in the UK are allowed to hand out non reusable plastic bags, and they were generally the businesses that did away with them in the first place.
Ontheroad · M
Unfortunately, yes they do. In the U.S.
I have a stack of reusable shopping bags and always have at least one in the car for a quick milk and bread stop.

@Ontheroad It varies by state though. Here in Massachusetts stores mostly have paper bags.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
They sell them for 10 cents, or you can pay 20 cents for a paper bag guaranteed to break before you get to your car.
Sevendays · M
It is ironic that they don't have plastic bags to take your groceries home in but half of the food we buy is in plastic bags. 🤔
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
California USA, most stores sell them for 10 cents. There are a few that don't sell them at all. Yet the only one I know of, that doesn't sell them, is Aldi's.
Some small businesses still hand them out freely. Yet that's a business size, state law. So many customers they must charge by state laws. Why all the big chain stores must charge.

SlaveEt · 36-40, F
Yep, they sure do. Good thing too, they work great for scooping cat boxes and whatever else. I reuse them for all kinds of things, take them to the bag reclaim thingy when I remember or toss them. Just depends.
Piper · 61-69, F
Yes, and most use them even if they buy one thing. I figure most people use at least 50, for a half full cart of groceries. I avoid them whenever possible.

No. You pay for them here if they even have them. Most stores sell reusable bags from cloth or heavier paper. They are illegal now, the plastic.

I’ll go first
I’m in Ontario. Plastic bags are no longer provided at checkout. Paper or reusable or a box
