There are so many things wrong with this theory disguised as advice...
a. Most people don't shop at the mall anymore.
b. You are assuming that this is a problem for many people.
c. There is not a universal representation of a "real adult," so your premise is flawed from the get-go.
I don't mean to be super-critical for the sake of it. But, there is just so much to unpack here .
