When there's a German in the room, do you say to your friends "Don't mention the war"?

No but I do say that when there's a southerner in the room.

@BlueMetalChick Mr. Fawlty is a southerner, he's from Swanage.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Bewilderbeeste He's South African. "Southerner" in this context means the deep south United States. Because they're still upset about having lost the American Civil War.

@BlueMetalChick My name comes from an old British comedy series called Fawlty Towers. The character Basil Fawlty is from Swanage. Played by John Cleese. He's referring to the character.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@basilfawlty89 Oh, I thought he was referring to "southern" as in "South Africa."
Bewilderbeeste · 61-69, M
@BlueMetalChick Who is South African? I was talking about Basil Fawlty, he's English. You've lost me. 🤔
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Bewilderbeeste Basil Fawlty the character is English but BasilFawlty69 the SW user who posted this question is South African. I forgot you were talking about the character who he got his namesake from.
Bewilderbeeste · 61-69, M
@BlueMetalChick I didn't know the SW user was South African, I assumed from his name he was English. If he'd been called ManfredMann I'd have guessed he was South African.
