I don't think this is about equality, if it would have been, they would have called it humanism. Neither it should be about giving women higher precedence and rights over men, as it is against the very nature of being a true human.

What we know as feminism today began with a lot of justification as the suffragette movement where women wanted the right to vote.

Biblical supressions of women, confining them to the home, and discrimination in education and in the workplace, and in pay, were also issues that women wanted to change.

All of the above are worthy goals, and they should be what feminism is all about.
Unfortunately, modern feminists have targeted masculinity as "the enemy", and just as most SJW's take it way too far, so do modern feminists. No one knows what civility is, or how to make changes without being insufferably rude.
