I have a pitch for a movie

You follow a man named Gregory with his family, he does normal things every day, takes appointments, attends meetings, etc. But something is just a little bit off, characters seem to expect things to happen before they happen, you watch the movie thinking this and that it's just a tad bit boring a lot of the time. Midway through it's revealed that the entire town Gregory lives in has unanimously decided to pretend that they've gone back in time about 20 days before something awful in the town unfolded. You now get to watch Gregory deal with this dilemma and discover what happened. Maybe you'll rewatch the movie just to pick up on the clues you didnt pay attention to that explains the plot.

I thought of this because of laundry.

I'm outlining some of the plot lol

Something bad happens at the end of the 20 days and then the town resets itself. People still know what happened but nearly everyone want to keep this cycle going. Why? Is there a cult?

Gregory is a person who just moved there in prospects for work. We follow the 20 first days of stay there. Does the town succeed in converting him or is he gotten rid of? Does he flee? Does he stay and try to get to the bottom of things?

He falls in love with a girl there who’s in on it, slowly she becomes like him and starts questioning things, but not expressly so. Perhaps she’s conflicted but plays along for longer until she finally snaps. They at the very least go through a couple of these cycles with her being in on it.

They try to replace someone in the mall but since its so difficult to know how to act because so much happens that the new person can’t remember, they have to continue replacing that person.

Gregory starts noticing things seem off, as if he is the only person who doesnt quite know what will happen but everyone else does, even though they pretend to not know. He picks up on subtle queues where people act a bit off, like they prepare for something to happen despite it not being a sign of happening yet. Perhaps a girl prepares for being slapped or abused in some other way before the situation presents itself. Maybe she breaks and doesnt want this role anymore, cant someone else take over?

How do people remember everything that has happened and how to reenact it? Do they keep logs? Do they study every night as if it was a play? How do they handle new people introducing new events to the town? Do these events get included when they go back in time? What is time like, does the date continue and do people remember for how long Gregory has been there or do they confuse him and tell him he has been there for only one day on the 21st day? Does this happen for more people than him? How many people move to this village? Does Gregory get to meet other people who have only lived there for less than “20 days” despite living there for years?

What happens if someone dies? Is their history erased? What happens when people age, is it counted or will there be 20 year old 40 year olds in the village?

I'm trying to decide whether that's brilliant or not. I think if it were handled by the right writers, it could be amazing.
