I've seen it both ways. People who project an aura of calm and openness completely lose their minds when you mention something "triggering" and profane mouth breathers who suddenly offer a moment of profundity and truth that makes you catch your breath.
I think its fun to challenge others on their beliefs and have your own beliefs challenged. It's invigorating.

I think the calm types usually like to be prepared and have go-to talking points, and then crumble under pressure when they're met with something unexpected. I remember the time Ben Shapiro made a fool of himself on BBC because all of his go-to counter-arguments fell flat.
And sometimes you do realize that there's a nugget of truth behind the apoplectic fits that causes the caustic types to go on the tirades they do. You learn to have a little bit of empathy even for people you can't agree with
