Do you have to psyche yourself up before going to the dentist?

When I was 11 I had a fall off the side of a high dive (10 feet) and hit the concrete breaking my jaw and shattering several of my teeth - also had a concussion and since I did, and they had to deal with the shattered teeth first, I had several teeth pulled without benefit of novocaine (or whatever they used back in the dark ages) - the pain was indescribable and I passed out a couple of times during the process. Then on to getting the jaw wired shut... not fun.

Ever since that day I've, shall we say, disliked dentists and really have to psyche up to go. Cleanings aren't too bad, that I can deal with, but when it comes to anything more, I tell the dentist, knock me out or this ain't happening!

No. In fact, i love getting my teeth cleaned.

I've put off getting a wisdom tooth pulled for about a year though, if not longer. Still putting it off for various reasons.

I can block it out. I had a little filling a few weeks ago that apparently fell out. I’m going tomorrow, probably have to do the filling again. I just brace myself for pain.

🤔.............No, going to the dentist doesn't really bother me...........It's my bank account that hates it when I have to take $4K out to pay for for my of pocket expense for 4 teeth pulled, one root canal and two crowns..........

There was a time I didn't understand what all the fuss was about.
Then came the retainer. I felt like a Steinway piano tuned too tight. 😄

I haven't been to the dentist in years...no cavities or fillings 😁

Yeees. I used to major stress / panic about it. I'm calmer now.
