Yes, but I busted my ass from the very bottom rung of the corporate ladder proving myself invaluble over the coarse of years to get this role.

@Creep I have a Finance Analyst/ IT Technologist hybrid role.
Monalisaa1986 · 36-40, F
@Starcrossed and you did that without a degree
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@Monalisaa1986 yes, I lucked out and landed a role in 2008 that was updated to require a degree by 2010. I wouldn't have even been allowed to interview for it had I applied 2010-2021 when they changed the role again to a different job family which had different requirements allowing for years of service to equate to a degree.
I campainged hard agaist HR's exclusionary degree policy and my case along with several other long term colleagues helped change the company's discriminatory policy to be more inclusive to people who didn't take a traditional 4 yr degreed path.

A college degree is pretty worthless these days, unless it’s something like engineering, medical, or law, and even the last two are not what they used to be. I recently had a diagnostic test done, and the two medical professionals didn’t know what some of the results meant. One didn’t care about the diagnosis, just wanted to treat the symptoms without taking into account what that treatment would affect some of the issues. It actually made it worse. It’s not what it used to be. Schools are more concerned with pronouns than good medical training.

I have a B.A. in English Lit. and I spent my whole working life in restaurants and retail. Most I ever made was $10.10 an hour and took me 12 years to work my way up from $5.

I went to college, but didn't nessacarily have to. My parents wanted their kids to go to a good college. I have a job now, but plan on going back to college to get a teaching degree.
WhateverWorks · 36-40
My partner is a journeyman. It didn’t require a university degree, but it still required a lot of training and ongoing education/training. It’s good pay, but also hard work.

Good is subjective, some value money/short-term pleasure over happiness/comfort
@MartinTheFirst I mean money wise. A job thats makes a decent amount of money to were you aren’t living pay check to pay check. Doesn’t matter if it brings happiness or not.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@Creep Well now you know how to formulate your question to get higher quality answers for your needs.
