Did you know that millennials hold more college degrees than previous generations.

They’re the most educated generation.

The great irony that this is also the generation that was the first to have less wealth than their parents in at least modern history.
@CountScrofula boomers. And also with life expectancy. Us boomers were the first generation in decline.

And more women than men—across racial lines, too.
From Pew stats:
White, Black and Hispanic women have outpaced men in college completion in recent decades. For example, in 1995, young White women and men were equally likely to have a bachelor’s degree (29% each). The gap has increased to 10 points today (52% of White women vs. 42% of White men).

Similarly, in 1995, young Black women and men were about equally likely to have a bachelor’s degree (14% vs. 16%). Today, Black women are 12 points more likely than Black men to have one (38% of Black women vs. 26% of Black men).

There is also a growing gender gap between Hispanic men and women in college completion. In 1995, similar shares of Hispanic women and men had a bachelor’s degree (10% vs. 9%), but today the gap between groups is 9 points (31% vs. 22%).

The pattern is different for Asian adults, with women and men making comparable gains over the last few decades. In 1995, 42% of young Asian women and men had a bachelor’s degree. Today, 77% of young Asian women have one, as do 71% of young Asian men.

@bijouxbroussard As more women and people of color get educated, the more afraid the establishment of old, white men will be.
No...if that's true, then they are the most diploma'd generation.

I know lots of people whose learning obviously never "took".

I remember when being educated meant something.
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
It makes sense considering our conditioning to go to college or end up on the streets, lol.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Well, they have more degrees than previous generations, at least. Not sure that means they're more educated or just that "higher" education has become such a money-making proposition that everyone gets involved.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@ChipmunkErnie The higher the level of education, the least likely you are to vote for Trump or any similar right wing demagogue. That indicates a high level of intelligence to me.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@SunshineGirl Possibly. Not sure if intelligence and education are always related. A person can be very intelligent and have a lot of knowledge outside of higher education, and there are a few millions people with college degrees who voted for Trump and even serve in his admin.
GerOttman · 70-79, M
Are these the same ones who can't find or hold a job so they can pay back the loans they took to get the degrees that they cant find jobs for?
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
This is grounds for optimism!
chrisCA · M
That is understandable since their parents are the baby boomers.
come2gether · 46-50, M
They also have the most student loan debt of any generation. That doesn't sound like an educated decision
chrisCA · M
@come2gether No, that reflects poorly on a country makes higher education unaffordable to it's citizens.
"enrolled students" makes unemployment numbers look magical.

im sure all those art degrees will come in handy tho.. 🤓
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout there's more money in the arts than people think.
A degree in Arts, or degree in gender studies, or a degree in why dogs bark
