School is Out

My daughter just graduated 5th grade. They gave out a lotta awards.
Aspiring Author, Above and Beyond, Best Attitude, Helping Hands, Excellent Effort, Math Master, Extra Mile, Kindest Classmate, Leadership, Outstanding Improvement, Miss Manners, Safety Award, Reading Rockstar, Super Speller, Super Scientist, Spectacular Sportsman, Technology Whiz, Student of the Year, and Writing Wizard.

And my daughter received one so I am the proud parent of the 11 year old who took home the Giggle Award for her class. 😏
She informed me afterwards that I should be very proud cuz that means that she is happy. And all i wanted was for her to learn to read and or write cursive. I guess maybe next year.

It's not to be knocked. A good sense of humour can go far in life.😌

And Mom, if I'm right, was giggling when she made this post. I'd be thrilled to have a daughter who got the Giggle Award... she can learn the boring stuff anytime, if she is happy, then everything else is easy.

I'd say Mom is rockin' the parent thing.

Aww! Congrats to that baby ! Having a happy little girl is a blessing . 😊😊😊

There is this growing movement of people calling for cursive writing to be brought back into the classroom.

As a sub I TRY to warn entitled fifth graders that life is going to get very hard on them in middle school. (at least here in the challenging Florida middle schools.) Elementary school teachers may think those wild antics are cute, but middle school life changes everything. There is a ton of work the new sixth graders have to take on, and nobody will think their acting out in class is funny or cute.

Tell your daughter (assuming you have her in a red state school) that she is about to step on a roller coaster and the work load is huge. Middle school life just might be (at least for American kids) hopefully the most challenging aspect of life. Those are a rough three years.

Bless her! 🤗 Was that an award for her own giggle, or making the rest of the class laugh? 🙂
Melissa501 · 36-40, F
@SunshineGirl i think, both

Thanks for sharing. Those are great awards and you are right to be proud of your daughter.

It is not an evidence nowadays to have a child that is so gifted and that can make parents proud of their accomplishments. Take good care of your child because she has a great future ahead of her.

Good job mom!!! Every kid has their gift which shows in time. Mine are very different. You supporting them makes their heart happy.
Streamline1985 · 36-40, M
they don't teach that stuff in schools anymore, from what I have heard and understand. Cursive is a disappearing thing
Pretzel · 61-69, M
do they still teach cursive? I had heard a lot of schools weren't teaching that any more
Melissa501 · 36-40, F
@Pretzel i guess not. Cuz the other day i wrote her a note in cursive. And finally she said what kinda language did you write that? i said i call it english.
ASolitaryMan · 61-69, M
Congratulations!🌹 she is an extention of you. So, mom, that a job well done!!!

@ASolitaryMan thanks

Yes, cursive is a lost art. Kids today look at it like an ancient language, perhaps appearing on slabs of rock.
brian29715 · 46-50, M
Proud moment for sure. I’m not sure they even teach cursive anymore. Kind of a shame.

You are a good mom to have such a smart and happy daughter.
