School is Out

My daughter just graduated 5th grade. They gave out a lotta awards.
Aspiring Author, Above and Beyond, Best Attitude, Helping Hands, Excellent Effort, Math Master, Extra Mile, Kindest Classmate, Leadership, Outstanding Improvement, Miss Manners, Safety Award, Reading Rockstar, Super Speller, Super Scientist, Spectacular Sportsman, Technology Whiz, Student of the Year, and Writing Wizard.

And my daughter received one so I am the proud parent of the 11 year old who took home the Giggle Award for her class. 😏
She informed me afterwards that I should be very proud cuz that means that she is happy. And all i wanted was for her to learn to read and or write cursive. I guess maybe next year.

There is this growing movement of people calling for cursive writing to be brought back into the classroom.

As a sub I TRY to warn entitled fifth graders that life is going to get very hard on them in middle school. (at least here in the challenging Florida middle schools.) Elementary school teachers may think those wild antics are cute, but middle school life changes everything. There is a ton of work the new sixth graders have to take on, and nobody will think their acting out in class is funny or cute.

Tell your daughter (assuming you have her in a red state school) that she is about to step on a roller coaster and the work load is huge. Middle school life just might be (at least for American kids) hopefully the most challenging aspect of life. Those are a rough three years.
