how i deal with my teenager cousin?

He is 13 but he is getting himself into some stuff in the internet like the dark web and drugs and hackering. it's disturbing really. He hacked many accounts and his parents are not even aware of what he is doing in the internet.
PS: they give so much freedom cause he's battling cancer, but still once he gets better things are not going to be pretty.
Any advice?

At 13, he's his parents responsibility. If he survives the cancer, which I'm sure we all sincerely hope he will, he will take on the responsibility himself when he becomes an adult legally. As you are young yourself, he might listen to you rather than his parents. Otherwise, as keepitsimple said, you could speak with his parents, who perhaps actually aren't that bothered or as concerned as you. If that doesn't work I fear you will be watching the beginning of a tragic personal life.

@JustChill when my son stole I drove him to the police station. When he hacked some people conning people out of money using a pretend charity and exposed them I said "don't worry about it"

There has to be limits. Limits are not always black and white.

@KaiserSolze I think we're agreed on the last statement and I'm pleased that his ability to hack goes with a sense of justice. Sounds like you had him sorted in a firm but caring way.

@Frank52 Yea, being banned from Xbox for making and selling game mods upset him more than anything. He still uses Xbox but he's got into Forex now like it's a game where he just pays £5 to pay every month and makes money out of it. He's not stupid. He works a manual job that uses his body and his mind, he pays his bills.

Also regarding the school, if they don't have a computer teacher that can't stop a child from crashing the system then they need to improve their knowledge or get a new teacher.

I just don't think it's all bad when children experiment in this way in life.

If he likes hacking, magically direct him towards beneficial white hat hacking and he might end up finding vulnerabilities for companies and getting paid a lot for it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

He has cancer leave him alone. That's my opinion.

My son who wasn't ill did a bit of hacking as a kid, age 13, he told me. I said "where's the memory stick. He said "I threw it down the drain" I said "well don't worry about it then and don't do it again"

He 20 now he works fixing Lorries and does a bit Forex trading in his spare time.

He would cut all his schools computer systems out whenever he was in trouble so they couldn't write on his record. If people annoyed him online he crashed there routers and set fire to one of them. He wrote mods for games and got banned from Xbox repeatedly. He wrote a few viruses. He hacked loads of Facebook profiles.

My point it kids now need to learn computers more than ever, it doesn't always lead to hacking NASA and being raided by the FBI. Mostly it's pretty harmless.

Let your cousin who has cancer have some normal semblance of modern childhood.

And if the worst comes to the worst as already said 🔨 or🔥 🤷

I think its sort of normal. Let him have some normal.

@Frank52 His moral compass is very good.
Frank52 · 70-79, M
@KaiserSolze Because someone else gave him that? With respect, you seem to have allowed quite a lot of behaviour to go unchallenged which might have led him to believe it was acceptable in mainstream society.
KaiserSolze · 46-50, F
@Frank52 LOL i do not care for mainstream society. I have to live in it and tolerate it but I do not care for it.

Also you assume his behaviour went unchallenged.

I said he did these things. I didn't say they all went unchallenged.

You tell his parents
JustChill · 26-30, F
@Keepitsimple I'm gonna contemplate that
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
There’s are things they don’t need to be doing or a part of at 13.@JustChill
JustChill · 26-30, F
@Keepitsimple Exactly, that's why I'm very worried
nope let him deal with it
JustChill · 26-30, F
@destinysfortune can't do. he's a minor, he needs guidance.
@JustChill he's fine he knows don't underestimate his intelligence
Tukudo · 41-45, M
I think his intelligence is great! Only thing is he need proper guidance to utilize in right way. His parents responsibility to make him right.

He needs a life coach.

@JustChill He needs psychological grooming and redirection of his potential to achieve something productive and rewarding in the long run. Aka a life coach.
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
I think u know what to do 💻️ 🔨
JustChill · 26-30, F
@smileylovesgaming I can't do that cause he's very addicted. Even since he got cancer like a year ago he's been using them non stop. This can't be a solution. :/
