A flood of Houston magnitude is a one in 800 year event? Will Trump see Global Warming?

FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
They changed it to "climate change"after it was proven that the earth wasn't warming at the rate they said.
snowbelt · 61-69, M
@TexChik There was no clamoring about a "second" ice age (for your information, there have been many more than two). That's a total fabrication on your part.
TexChik · F
@snowbelt sorry Mr. Liberal, it seems you guys always rewrite history when the egg starts sticking to your face . Their words , not mine . Now with climate change you libs are using a manipulated computer model to PREDICT the faux disasters a few percentage points of one degree of temperature increase are " going to do " in 100 years . The premise is so ignorant it's mind boggling . Yet libs say all those billions they gleam from the ignorant will STOP a naturally occurring phenomenon . But nothing has changed ... except Their appetite for more money ... which has increased .
snowbelt · 61-69, M
@TexChik Climate change is real. It is occurring now. We may be seeing the future in Houston right now. You can ignore it. You can deny it. You can jump up and down and say NO NO NO. But it will still happen regardless.
lorne13 · 61-69, M
He has no idea what that means, he still thinks clean coal means the miners wash their hands after work
sogdianrock · 61-69, M
hi lorne13
haha he sells hats by wearing them to news conferences!
best wishes
:)

Probably just a lot of hot air from the high concentration of liberals in that area ... like the mayor who countermanded the Governor and told everyone they didn't need to evacuate Houston . 🙄
TexChik · F
@snowbelt yes the libs are already blaming Trump 🙄
snowbelt · 61-69, M
@TexChik Did I blame Trump? I don't think you can blame him for what we're seeing in Houston. This is a wake-up call. We'll see how he handles the aftermath. At this point, I just want people to be rescued and survive and rebuild and move on with their lives.
TexChik · F
@snowbelt you aren't the only lib in the box are you?
cycleman · 61-69, M
No. they get floods all around the gulf every fricken year
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@SW-User I never said that this was unprecedented in world history. Just that the US has never seen an event like this. You are absolutely correct that the longer the period of time, the more likely a small-probability event is to happen. That's how statistics works, as you note. However, when you start to see multiple events of great magnitude over relatively short periods of time, that begs the question of why that is occurring (Houston had large floods from Allison in 2001 and Rita in 2008, before Harvey). And that is why the why of such events needs to be examined. The time for that will be after the event is done and people go back to document what occurred, why it occurred, and what can be done to mitigate future events.

@windinhishair Never ..even if limited to U.S.

Never goes beyond human recorded history .. so not in the last 300-400 years there might be annecdotal accounts from .. the last 100-200 tht there is any reliable weather reporting in some areas.

Not convincing for Never.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@SW-User OK, never in recorded human history in the US. Better for you? I'm sure the magnitude was higher during the formation of the Chicxulub crater in the Yucatan at the end of the Cretaceous.

@Greenbare Except that global climate change is occurring, is observable, and is measurable. Show me a scientific paper that it is not occurring and that everything that is observed and measured, all over the world, is wrong.

@Greenbare I know. I feel sorry for you. No source for your information at all, unless you can provide one. Prove your point with real information. I'd love to see it.
whoowho · 41-45, F
I doubt it.

How much do you want to bet that the next rally will be in Tx?
Nothing like death and destruction to pose an opportunity for Trump to talk about himself. 🙄
boy I hope not he'll just make things worse
Mert5356 · 41-45, M
We will see if this becomes another Katrina or not
@Mert5356 or twisters

It's not necessarily global warming. As you indicate in your question, it's not a new event but has happened before. It's speculated that the Mayans around Palenque were wiped out by a catastrophic weather event
SW-User
Uhm .. 1 in 800 yr events are not caused by global warming, genious.
SW-User
@sogdianrock ..I'd rather make a minor spelling error than ridiculous claims about this storm ...
sogdianrock · 61-69, M
hi 4everman
touche, genious.
50" of rain forecast today - ridiculous!
Best wishes
:)
SW-User
Thats forecast in total from the storm .. not just today. "Worst ever" is relative to recorded human history .. which an 800 year period just about covers for weather reporting ...
TexChik · F
Yeah but the are affected is a liberal cess pool !!
sogdianrock · 61-69, M
hi TexChik
Amazing. Do you think a civil war his coming?
Best wishes
:)
TexChik · F
@sogdianrock oh when push cones to shove and people start going to jail ... things will settle downb

Get the facts right. There never was an attempt to force pastors to submit sermons for approval. There was a subpoena issued to several pastors that were involved in a lawsuit involving recall petitions for the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO) to provide "all speeches, presentations, or sermons related to HERO" as part of the lawsuit discovery process. That is hardly a requirement for all pastors in Houston to submit sermons in advance for approval. Try getting your facts right for a change.

Sheila Jackson Lee is one of five congressional members that serve parts of Houston, following Republican gerrymandering. She's not a very good member of the House--the left-wing equivalent of Rep. Lamar Smith or Rep. Louie Gohmert Jr.

Do you have any compassion at all for flood victims who aren't Republicans?
