Reading news about the woman in Ohio who is prosecuted because of her miscarriage. It makes me sad and angry.

A YouTube video from a show about ancestry and DNA testing…a black woman was told she had white ancestry and she exclaimed, "oh no !" White posters jumped on her, saying, "What if a white person said something like that ?" and "She’s a racist !"
I don’t have a YouTube account, so I couldn’t address their remarks. Probably for the best.

But it was clear those commenting were clueless about U.S. history. It had already been established that the woman was descended from slaves on a specific plantation and apparently she shared DNA with the owner’s children, so likely this was the result of [b]rape[/b], a common practice towards enslaved women.

That they couldn’t comprehend how she might feel some sadness for that ancestor and why, was just another example of the different realities we still inhabit in the U.S.
