This is an extremely easy problem to fix. Stop feeding the dog in excess. Once you stop doing that, the problem will be solved. The dog is not getting calories from water or the air it breathes. It's all coming from whatever you allow it to eat. And it's not a problem that suddenly appear overnight. This is habitually overfeeding it.

Ask a veterinarian?

High protein low filler dog food. High end dog foods.
My food for my Husky is like $72 for 28 pounds. But it is good for him.
Also don’t leave bowls of food down.
Put it down and take it back up to teach meal time.

Walk him several times per day and put him on a strict diet. Consult a vet before doing anything else, though, as he may have other medical issues that are causing his weight gain.

Give him less food

Walk him often, reduce portion sizes, and make sure he doesn't get your food. Beyond that, you'll need to speak with a vet.

No people food, limit snacks, lots of exercise, maybe try a raw diet

Stop feeding doggo thrash. My Pitbull got obese eating the portions of the other doggo and treats 👀 diet modifications got him set.

Take him to walk a couple miles each day and get him food for obese dogs
