What did you do today?

I went to the dentist. Got an emergency appointment shortly after calling them this morning.

Did you know the numbing shots one gets at the dentist don't numb infected areas?
Also, those shots are the only type of pain relief we get at the dentist here in Norway.

So, anyway... I had an infected (roots AND an abcess on the gums) tooth removed today and got some sutures to close up the wound after.
I was already missing the other tooth needed to be able to chew with it, so an expensive root canal wasn't worth it.

Also, I now only have 21 teeth left, but my mouth is so small it's hardly noticeable 😅

So, did you have fun today?

More fun than that for sure. 😅 Just been working out and music-ing all day. :)

I hope your mouth heals up quickly!! I'm sure it's gonna be such a relief to have that tooth gone.
TheRealBarbossa · 36-40, T
@thepeculiarpanda It made my lymphs and tonsils on that side of my throat swell and hurt, so I have no doubt it'll be all good in a could of days.

Musicing? Elaborate, please 😊
thepeculiarpanda · 36-40, M
@TheRealBarbossa I believe it! I had a bunch of dental work done in the past few years from Prednisone + alcoholism. Teeth are so dramatic. 😮‍💨

I've been playing guitar and writing songs since I was 15. :3 Been working on a lot of music lately but I've been having trouble finding words. 🤔

Here's an old one though! With a very young photo of me haha.

@thepeculiarpanda reminds me of a slightly more upbeat version of I Will Follow You Into The Dark by Death Cab For Cuties (that's a compliment btw)

I've had a bunch of dental work myself, even as a kid. In a span of 3 years I had 4 teeth removed in one sitting to avoid braces, then another 3 to make more room for my teeth to settle, then another 4 for the same reason. I was a pre-teen at the time 🙈

I'm not even 40 yet (will be later this year) and all my molars have had root canals, and I lost 3 teeth due to infections so far.
thepeculiarpanda · 36-40, M
@TheRealBarbossa I was listening to a ton of Death Cab at that point, so that makes a lot of sense. :)

Jeeeez, that's so much dental work!! I'm so sorry you've had to go through all of that. 😕 I wish our bodies could just repair our teeth like they do with everything else.

Apparently people with my autoimmune disorder tend to have a lot of dental issues (it messes with vitamin D stuff which messes with calcium stuff) and a lot of people end up getting dentures at some point. I'm hanging on as hard as I can though!
TheRealBarbossa · 36-40, T
@thepeculiarpanda I've always had bad teeth no matter what I do, so part of me has been wanting dentures for decades already. Would save me a lot of money and pain. But I also know they are a hassle of their own, so I hope to avoid it as long as I can too.

Probably doesn't help that I'm an alcoholic these days, but working on fixing that with professional help 👍

Autoimmune disorders must suck tho. Not a whole lot you can do about that, I think? Correct me if I'm wrong.

@TheRealBarbossa It's definitely one of those "rock and hard place" situations. It's how I feel with my hip right now; the right one needs to be replaced but isn't in DESPERATE need of being replaced so I'm just kind of hobbling along right now. It'll need to happen in the next year or two though.

Booze is so much harder to escape than it ought to be! Doesn't help that it's so accepted all over the place.

Mine is currently in remission which is nice! It messed me up pretty badly to begin with and has affected a few new organs over the years but it could also be worse. :) I just managed to get one of the weird conditions that none of the doctors know what to do with haha.
TheRealBarbossa · 36-40, T
@thepeculiarpanda no chance of the surgery happening sooner? Can't possibly be good for you to hobble along, with the risk of overcorrecting.

I managed to quit for 9 years once, but even my mom didn't understand why I needed to stay away from alcohol completely. "One sip won't hurt" and "you used to be more fun" are a couple of the sentences often uttered by her.

Remission for the win! I'm happy for you 😊
thepeculiarpanda · 36-40, M
@TheRealBarbossa No risk of overcorrecting really, I already walk with a super pronounced limp. :) The other hip was replaced when I was 23 after being broken for seven months.

Ughhhh that's so aggravating. It might not hurt some people but for someone who is a recovering alcoholic, it's more often than not a dangerous step off a ledge. You can definitely do it again though!! :3

Thank youuu! I'm happy too; they told me it was never going to happen and I managed to figure it out with exercise, diet, and lots of cannabis. :)
TheRealBarbossa · 36-40, T
@thepeculiarpanda That's a relief. No need to make things worse than they already are if you can avoid it 😊

The same mom also freaked out and called me an alcoholic a couple of years ago after seeing an empty flask of rum on my counter. She immediately jumped to conclusions and assumed I'd drank it all in one go (not the case at the time)
Can't win with her, basically.

Having someone tell you "not gonna happen" is usually good motivation to do exactly that. Even more so than people believing in you 😅
thepeculiarpanda · 36-40, M
@TheRealBarbossa Agreed! It would be hard to do at this point haha. Brain damage led to spinal cord damage which has led to my legs cramping and toning themselves constantly since 2010. They're super defined but I'm tired of them aching. XD

Parents like that are so hard to deal with. My mom was like that too. "We didn't see you were having a problem with drinking!" Really mom? 'Cause I was in the room across the hall from you and you saw how many liquor bottles I was bringing out.

Absolutely! My stubborn Scottish heritage kicks in at that point haha.
TheRealBarbossa · 36-40, T
@thepeculiarpanda I don't even refer to her as mom irl unless she's nearby anymore. She doesn't deserve that title. But I'm too scares of her to say anything.

Scottish you say? That's hawt 😊
thepeculiarpanda · 36-40, M
@TheRealBarbossa I was always scared of mine too until about six years ago. We got in a fight on my birthday and then I realized that I was so much bigger than she was that none of the words she had used to tear me down over the years mattered anymore.

She passed last September and I'm still getting used to it. It's so odd that she's not here anymore.

Yup, on my dad's side. :3 It's why my beard and mustache grow in so red haha.
TheRealBarbossa · 36-40, T
@thepeculiarpanda My mom is so manipulative, mean, and ignorant, on top of having borderline personality disorder (which she uses as an excuse every chance she gets) that my oldest sister and I actually hope she'll be part of the "self deaths caused by borderline PD" statistics.

Horrible thing to say about ones own mom, I know, but that doesn't chance the fact we've reached that point.
thepeculiarpanda · 36-40, M
@TheRealBarbossa That's definitely not a good combo. 😕 How often do you have to interact with her in person?

Mine was a narcissist who was physically abusive in my childhood and then switched to emotional abuse when I was too old to spank anymore. She ended up causing her own death by thinking she knew more than the doctors did.
TheRealBarbossa · 36-40, T
@thepeculiarpanda once a month on average, I think.
