Has this ever happened to you?

I just laid in my bed to rest for a few minutes and must've fallen asleep, maybe fifteen minutes or so. Next thing I know, I jumped up, really rapidly, and sat up, then stood up fast. I felt for one moment I was dead. Like I wasn't there fully. After another minute my heart started racing. I was so nervous of what had just happened.

I've woken up before from a deep sleep, and not known where I was for a few seconds. But this was so alarming, to JUMP up out of sleep like that, as if I were dead standing there...I think my brain wasn't in full consciousness. Luckily within a minute or two I was fine, and my heart stopped racing. Has this ever happened to you?
The closest thing I could find online of what it could be is a possible Hypnic jerk, where being overtired makes your brain get confused which sleep stage it's in. It was quite scary standing up, thinking I was dead..😢

PTSD comes with many gifts. A loud noise outside could have startled you and you were in such a deep sleep you could not wake up completely. Depending on the trauma that put you on your PTSD adventure, something you heard in conversation days ago could have finally been processed into a response.

Shake it off, mention it to your doc. 😊

@TexChik I did have a good bit of anxiety right before I laid down... maybe that possibly triggered the jumping out of bed. Thanks Tex

I had a recurring problem while sleeping. I would dream that there were huge spider webs hanging over my bed. Or perhaps I was half-awake and not dreaming, and looking into the darkness and hallucinating? I am nearsighted so things like the green light on the smoke detector wobbles!

Then I would be terrified by the perceived webs, jump out of bed (literally, rather than in a dream) and crouch down on the floor. Then snap out of it a few seconds later and emerge awake.

This happened occasionally for a few years, especially when there was stress in my life. It has not happened in a long while, though, thankfully.

It is a good thing I did not also thing the floor was lava, LOL! 😁

I don't think so. I sometimes jerk out of sleep but not jump up. My heart hardly ever races after waking up. It used to happen when I was a small kid waking up from nightmares but then it passed. I rather tend to experience sleep paralysis now.

I have not done that but have had the sleep paralysis when waking that is weird

I've startled awake before but never to the point of jumping out of bed!

@HumanEarth I am anxious if it ever happens again. I hope not. Thanks for sharing your experience as well. 🌛

Trust me I must have been anxious the first time it happened to me.

I really dont want to sound like I'm trying to get off the phone with you

I'm just really really tired and would really love to have real heart to heart talk about our experiences.

So in the morning please message me. I would love to talk more about this

@HumanEarth No worries...I did have anxiety before it occurred too.
Have a nice night 🌟
