I hate it so much 😑 Like I’m currently just a little sick but mom decided she wants an absolute super ultra accurate reading of my temperature and yeah…did it the old fashioned way…

My sister said she was ill and as mum went to get the thermometer she drank hot water from the tap. Her temp was high but mum was not fooled so she rolled her over and did it in her bum. Yes it was normal and after her temp went up on her bum cheeks

@nevergiveup My mother used the rectal temp method if I said I was sick and couldn't go to school. If i was faking, I'd get a warm bottom too. For that reason she had me over he lap for temps.

Yours is not the only post about mothers taking their children's temperatures as if they think they are nurses in a TV hospital soap-opera.

I have had genuine medical examinations and treatment by my GP and in hospital. Several times, including two operations. I have had assorted blood tests and an ultrasound scan. At no time did anyone take my temperature.

What's the reason for this home-grown thermometer fetish?

Actually I recalled later I have had my temperature taken recently, prior to Covid and Influenza booster vaccinations; but by a non-contact, infra-red thermometer reading from the forehead.

@Countrygurl18 Be very careful. The readings are very accurate. Gold standard, actually. Thermometers must be specifically manufactured for internal use that way. Do not just use one designed for oral use. They could shatter and create the need for emergency surgery. It would not be a joke or so-called practical joke to swap them.

Thermometer under the armpit or in the mouth?

Nobodies had to stick it up the Politician in decades.

I used to carry two thermometers and make a quip about it. "Hey, stop buddy, my mistake, I gave you the wrong one that's the rectal thermometer. Er hang on..." I got into so much trouble as a nurse cadet.

They make scanners that can take your temperature without any insertion anywhere now.

@Justafantasy They do and it's surprising how sensitive they are. Mine was taken that way, from my face or forehead, when I went for my 'Flu vaccination, and the instrument did not even need touch me. Outdoors, too.

I still don't understand what the OP's Mum thought she was playing at or going to achieve anyway. She'd probably been reading homehypochondria-dot-twaddle.
