Exactly..and I hate it when people look at candy and say, "Youll get diabetes from that". Uhh no candy in moderation does not itself cause diabetes. Or when I've talked about my sisters constant high sugar for years, people say, she should eat low carb. She's been doing that for Years. 😕 She can eat eggs and her damn sugar can go high. It's a very intricate disease based on many factors, even stress level . It's truly not someone's fault, I agree.

@Baybreeze It is very hard disease to fight really and although, I do believe going low-carb will help me greatly, because in my case I can see that it is helping, you are not cured from diabetes, because even if the low carb reverses it for some, if you go back to eating the way you did before you're going to have high sugars again ,because you are diabetic.
I have a sister who eats all kinds of sweets she has never had diabetes.
She is 70.
So it's not young metabolism, she simply isn't diabetic.

@Justmeraeagain Exactly and I had a friend who was plus size, over 300 lbs and she was not type 1 or type 2 diabetic.
And it' sucks because even eating low carb or keeping sugars stable as my mom does, it still doesn't get a whole lot better through the years.

@Baybreeze that's too bad there is a population within the diabetic 2 community that is very insulin resistant and I believe that's probably very hard to control

Exactly. Initially I was hesitant about revealing that I was diabetic, because even though I ate carefully before and tried to stay fit, I like to cook. But it runs in my family (my brother was just diagnosed), so it’s something I’ve been dealing for awhile.

Ironically, for awhile the posters who carped the most when I mentioned food ("you sure you can eat that ?") were friends. Tbf, once I posted my feeling that such comments weren’t helpful, those who were actually friends backed off and trusted me to be on top of things. 😊

@bijouxbroussard That's great and some of it is just not knowing, I get that.

What, I've really resented is that one sister who wanted to advise me and lecture me on my diet while she wasn't even trying to manage hers.
And that's her choice ,but didn't like her lecture me that's how I felt and I know she would have a hissy fit if I lectured her .

I'm on insulin and have been since I went out of control because of insurance interuption. I now just eat whatever I want. I'm a lightweight and a diabetic diet would starve me because of loss of taste issues. Carbs are a major calorie source for me.

@Gibbon There's no cookie cutter answer is there?
I think if you find something that works for you that's what you do.
And nobody needs to criticize you or anyone else about it.

@Justmeraeagain That's very true. Those of us with it are all different. Mine unlike many is not onset diabetes it was caused by chemo. Came on fast.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@Gibbon I have two brothers and one sister who are also diabetic in my mother was diabetic so for most of us it was hereditary.
But ,my sister was told hers was caused by some steroid she had taken for pain control.

As a diabetic that uses a sensor and a pump i find it is easier to controll my diabetes
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@BeachGirl47 I'm a diabetic 2 and I probably should have made that clear.
I I know that diabetic ones have to be on insulin
Musicman · 61-69, M
Absolutely! I fully agree with you.
