Six years ago this week, COVID began

Who would have ever envisioned such an awful thing. 🙁

Pandemics are more frequent that people realise, so I guess it wasn’t that surprising. What shocked me was just how unprepared governments were.

@Fizzle Honestly, during the second bush term and Obama, in the US, there were very detailed plans developed and ready to go. You know what happened to those plans under certain republican governors and president? They were totally scrapped, discarded. Trump took pride in deleting all Obama-era plans! They have still not been redone, to my knowledge.

@samueltyler2 I was aware this happened, but then this was the same person who suggested that injecting bleach was a possibility…so, yeah.
However, it wasn’t just the USA, countries worldwide were woefully unprepared.
Shocking really when a serious pandemic is expected every 100 years or so. COVID came when expected - the last major outbreak was 1918-20 (Spanish flu, which killed 50+ million).

@Fizzle He has done so much damage to so many programs and people. The mRNA research is so groundbreaking, it is the future for cancer therapy, disease preventing vaccines, etc.

while it wasn't just the US, the US was the leader, the CDC was the shining beacon for science and disease prevention, until Trump destroyed it!

if you are interested, read Barry's book, The Influenza. My department of preventive medicine made it required reading.

Do you work in the field? Care to PM?
