Is losing sense of smell part of covid 19?

Now I know sometimes when you have a bad cold you can’t really smell, but now as I am eating, I have a different smell. Like I’m losing my sense of smell. It’s like a stale bad smell but not really bad. I can’t smell the food regularly if that makes sense. I’m trying to describe it as much as I can. I can still taste which is good.
I am still congested, have a runny nose but I am feeling a bit better. Don’t have a fever which is good. I got tested positive for covid Saturday night so I’m staying home from work for a couple days.
Also I now have diarrhea. Is it normal for the symptoms to come a couple days later?

loss of sense of smell and taste is honestly one of the worst parts of getting covid, it's a strange kind of torture to not want to eat anything because you know it won't taste of anything
@Sandcastler ugh…

I've had covid at least twice. My sense of smell has been coming and going for a few years and is now mostly gone so I didn't notice a loss of smell.

The first time I had a headache for a few days straight. It wasn't even a bad headache so I just ignored it and never took anything. My wife had a bad case and it took her a couple of months to get back to normal. If it had not been for that I might not have even suspected I had it.

The last time my sense of taste was off but not entirely gone. Tea didn't taste right and so I drank beer or juice which I could taste at least some. This time I was sick, not bad sick but sick enough I didn't feel like doing much of anything for about a week.

I don't remember diarrhea. If you are taking any medication it could be from that rather than the covid.

Yeah…. It’s part of taste
Unfortunately
@SW-User Damn….I hope I don’t lose my taste

@CraftyMarieArts I hope not too but it’s possible.. 😕

Yes, you can lose both smell and taste, and both can go a few days after the initial fever and aches etc have passed.
@Whodunnit Yeah that’s true. I’ll be better before you know it. It sucks that I can’t go anywhere but gotta be kind and keep away to be safe

@CraftyMarieArts Five to ten days should do it, though you may lose your senses for a fortnight or so.
@Whodunnit I know where we live, we have to be isolated for 5 days, at least at my job

Yeah, my ex got covid and lost his sense of smell. When he got it back most meat tasted off/bad and he doesn't really eat it anymore. Olfactory nerve damage. Wasn't looking like it'd ever go back to normal for him.
@SW-User Oh wow

My mother lost her sense of smell back in the summer of 2019 after having sustained a brain injury due to a fall from a flight of stairs.
@Sidewinder Oh no. That’s horrible. Sorry to hear that

@CraftyMarieArts And yet, as horrible as it is, it goes to show that a virus isn't the only thing that can rob one of their sense of smell.
@Sidewinder yeah. Also the reasons why I’m not going to work with a week because I don’t want to give it to anyone else

Yes, my smell isn't as good as before COVID..maybe that's a blessing!No bad smells.
Diarrhoea was one of the first symptoms my man had... he hadn't tested at that point.
Yes, it's the most characteristic symptom and can last for months. 😔

Yes, common symptom
I understand that for some it’s been a side effect. One of my sisters couldn’t smell or taste anything for awhile (the senses eventually returned). While she was not tasting, she rarely ate and lost about 30 lbs.
@bijouxbroussard damn… that’s horrible
yes it’s normal. every body reacts differently, which is why it’s so hard to deal with.

@pianoplayingsteve DUUUDE!!! Trump lost!! Deal with it!

pianoplayingsteve · 31-35, M
@ElwoodBlues I don’t see why trump losing would be an issue. Or do you think the red team vs blue team politics means anything?
@pianoplayingsteve
I don’t see why trump losing would be an issue.
