Cancer...Road to Recovery

02.07.23 marks the end of a 28 day regimen of radiation therapy for my cancer.

Folks, please get checked up on an annual basis. I consider myself lucky in that it was caught early and my prognosis is good.

Celebrate. But recognize your journey isn't over.

I had my 5th (and final) year followup with my surgeon yesterday. As long as my 5th year scans and oncology followup are clear this fall, I will transition from being cancer-free to being a cancer survivor.

I pray in 5 years you are in the same circumstance. Good luck!

That is so awesome!!! They can do wonders these days with cancer. I have a friend with lung cancer, and he received radiation therapy almost 4 years ago, and even though he has a host of other problems, he is still okay, and the cancer is not spreading.

@JohnnyNoir You are SO lucky. The doctors at the VA told him to get his affairs in order 4 years ago, and he is still going. He was told it was stage 3 inoperable.

@4meAndyou I waited over 18 months for treatment. Needed to get some personal things in order first. It'll still be a year before I have any idea if this worked

After being in remission from peritoneal mesothelioma for 2 1/2 years, the cancer returned. I began chemotherapy in October, and I am doing well. The tumors have begun to shrink. I am extremely fortunate to have close and easy access to world class state of the art academic medical care. The side effects of chemotherapy have very minimal for me.

Did you end up with any burns? I ended up a little burnt, even though I used the cream exactly as directed.
