Anyone with neuropathy know of any treatment that ..

Really does diminish the numbness in feet? This is the most awful feeling for my sister. She now can barely walk it's heartbreaking 😟 Any treatment that you know does help improve sensation again?

Does she have an actual diagnosis? Is it numbness and pain or just numbness? Has she had genetic testing? It can be expensive but it could uncover something, perhaps inherited.

She might want to reach out to the Rare Diseases Network if she has seen a neurologist for a while and she's still not diagnosed.

Or she can try the Inherited Neuropathy Consortium.

Physical therapy can help her to function optimally in her condition if it can't be improved. Good luck to her!

@irishmolly72 She's been diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy yes. It's both painful and very numb. She said the numbness is awful. It never stops. I feel so helpless. We will look again into the Rare diseases network. Ty so much 🌼

Is it from diabetes? I’m not diabetic, but the best nerve med for me has been neurontin. I know many dislike it, but for me it’s been the only one to touch my nerve pain. I’m assuming it’s what’s helped a lot of my numbing b/c I do t get it as much as I used to before taking it. The moment I feel tingling I start moving.

@MellyMel22 It's from diabetes yes. I'm sorry you experience it too..no med including neurontin has helped. She's trying to get into the hospital soon so her sugars can come down.. thank you Melly🌷

@Coralmist I’m sorry to hear that. I heard Lyrica helps many. It didn’t for me, but everyone is diff.

I'd assume she's already prescribed Gabapentin ?
If not have her look into that.

Massages, and exercise can really help strengthen and/or rebuild nerves,

@HikingMan Wow interesting, was it for neuropathy pain? And it helped?
HikingMan · 51-55, M
@Coralmist it was but his neuropathy was an intense all over type that was complicated by other maladies.
The surgery was done at Laney Clinc - Burlington MA if I’m not mistaken, though it might have been done in Boston MA in conjunction with the Laney Clinic For suppose?
I can’t honestly remember all the details as it was probably over a decade ago.

@HikingMan Well she's in such horrible pain daily it's worth a try for us to research it ..thank you , Hiking❄
We are from MA , small world 🙂
I’m still in the relatively "early days" of this condition but I soak my feet regularly—sometimes in Epsom salts, and someone in my support group (a dentist) suggested soaking them in generic mouthwash. Weird, but surprisingly, it is helpful.
@Coralmist Sometimes I do feel pain. It’s the numbness that’s not as defined yet. I get foot tests each year (the doctor sticks my feet with a needle and I confirm whether or not I feel it). This year a couple of times I wasn’t sure. That’s never been the case before. 🙁

@bijouxbroussard I'm sorry. But the semi-good news is most neuropathy progresses slow and over time... unfortunately because my sisters sugars have been high for so long, her neuropathy has gotten worse by the month. Her doctor said her level of numbness and pain is what an 85 year old has after 15 years of neuropathy. It's just horrible. She said the numbness is worse than pain. I just wish they'd put more money and more research into neuropathy, even neurologist don't know that much 😕
@Coralmist I’m so sorry. I wish also for more advances in the treatments for this disease.

Suggest getting an MRI, a potential MS symptom. Speak to a doctor for advice on it. It can get worse so sooner find out the more that can be done. Best wishes.

This is going to sound nuts but there’s a commercial call the good feet store and it’s custom made insoles for your shoes and they claim it helps with neuropathy.

Take 2 advil after her gabapentin. Will relieve enough to get 5 hours of sleep. Hell on the kidneys though.
hunkalove · 70-79, M
I massage mine every day. Makes a difference.
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@hunkalove Do you have that numbness as well?
hunkalove · 70-79, M
@Coralmist Yes. I was diagnosed about 8 years ago with type-2 diabetes and that is a symptom but then a year later I was told I didn't have it. My toes get numb but I massage them every evening.
