Have you ever had poison ivy?

How old were you?
Where were you?

🤔
Several times, but relative to others I know, extremely mild. My daughter specifically.

Once she and friends were “camping” in our backyard and the spot my child (about 11 yrs old) chose was LOUSY with poison ivy. By the time I checked on them, she was just waking up to misery.

As soon as the local health center opened, we were on our way there. As we drove, she fussed and cried. Blisters in her nostrils, on her scalp.

Finally, she said, Mom, can I swear?

I said, go ahead. I’d swear too.

She made a series of unintelligible sounds, then a little scream. “I don!t know any words BAD ENOUGH.

Oh yeah a few times. The first time it was bad. Was a child on the farm and me and my sisters were helping load firewood to a wagon and then helping carry it to the house after we got there. We all broke out with poison ivy and it was November. Apparently there were dry poison ivy vines on some of the firewood. And we all had it bad. Last time was in 6th grade and it wasn’t that bad. Somehow later I was immune to it. Would go fishing with huge poison ivy plants near the path to the river and it would brush up on my arms. I’d be fishing a few hours and take a shower when I got home. Maybe one little bump on my hand and I’d put rubbing alcohol on it and it’d dry up.

Yes several times as a kid. From spots on my legs to almost my entire body from the smoke of it burning in a wood fire. That was an absolute miserable experience.

@Gibbon Wow!
TexChik · F
Mom said I did a few times and would whip up her remedy and smear it all over the areas she was concerned with. I never really noticed. I was maybe 13-14.

I must not react to it.

I have spent lots of time in the woods, always without incident.
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@DrWatson That's good!
Yes I did as a young teenager....

@VeronicaJane Oh, my!
ALL THE TIME when I was a kid. I remember I used to run through it so often I just kind of got used to it and accepted it.

Even to this day I see people freaking out about it and I am just not understanding what the big deal is.

@OliviaOfTheNight You are brave!
Never had it. Never had a reaction to poison oak either, even after sleeping in a pile of it. Once had a reaction to poison sumac, but it wasn't bad.

@UnderLockDown Interesting.
She's pretty as a daisy,
But look out man, she's crazy!
She'll really do you in.
If you let her get under your skin!
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout That's clever!
Old fashioned lye soap will cut the oil that causes the rash, in case you ever have need of the information.
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@UnderLockDown Thank you!
