Have You Ever Eaten Jujube Fruit? Also Called Chinese Red Dates?

Someone gave us a bag of them that he grew from his own trees. They grow well in Oklahoma and can even grow in some desert conditions. They aren’t really dates, but have a similar pit inside and they are a bit dry inside and not too sweet. I like the flavor and texture of them. They remind me of another fruit called a Senjed. That fruit has a lemony flavor and a dry texture, reminds me of eating a small lemon cookie. Good with hot tea. Jujube fruits have a host of health benefits. I hope we can get a lot more of them in the future.

Wow! We have Asian markets in my area, but I don't think I've seen these before.

@BizSuitStacy I bought some at a Chinese grocery store one time maybe 40 years ago and was so disappointed. They must have been sitting out in that package for years. Hard to chew and no flavor. These are good, maybe because they are just old enough to get the flesh dried up without getting rock hard.

I've never even heard of that fruit! Sounds VERY interesting! I just looked it up, and Jujube sugarless jam is featured on Youtube!

@4meAndyou The health benefits are something else too. The worst problem the man who gave them to us said was keeping the squirrels away. He has 3 trees and they are loaded but the squirrels strip 2 of the trees and the other tree is right next to an area where his German shepherd stays in the yard and he barks the squirrels away. I would have loved to have planted these trees when we moved into this house to have all of that fruit.

Nanna had a bush in her front yard. 🤗
